Sony Computer Entertainment was a GDC yesterday to host a press event regarding their virtual reality head-mounted display, codenamed Project Morpheus, which was first unveiled at GDC 2014. With the press event, Sony's Shuhei Yoshida announced and unveiled a brand new prototype of Project Morpheus, featuring several key improvements over their original HMD announced last year.
Virtual reality is here; and is soon to be on PlayStation 4.
Shuhei Yoshida announced Project Morpheus would have its consumer launch by Q2 2016, and promised further information regarding the HMD and its consumer launch at E3 in June this year.
This is the new Project Morpheus prototype.
The HMD features a 5.7" 1080p OLED display, an improvement over the original's 5" 1080p LCD display; a complete set of 9 LED trackers (which are tracked via the PlayStation Eye Camera), improving the 360 deg. positional tracking of the original's 6 LED trackers; and an improved 100 deg. FOV, while the original had a FOV of 90 deg.
