Thoughts on Steam Universe and Steam Machines in general.

For those who don't know what I'm referring to:

There's apparently a line of machines designed to make it easier for PC gamers to get into console gaming. These include a Steam Controller with trackpads to emulate mouse movement, Steam Link (for those who might not want to blow $1,000 on a console-ish PC). Steam Machines and the Steam VR.

Considering we love Valve here at eGO (I better hope so, considering you guys have a number of divisions and support for their games =P), what are our thoughts on this? Does it seem like something you'd want to spend money on?

Personally I play games on my PC, and not on a console, because I like PC gaming. I thought the idea was cool when it first spawned but the more I speak to people about this the more convinced I get that trying to get PC gamers to play console games isn't something that's easily done. If I'd like to play something with a controller I'll just plug one into my pc and not pay the extra fee.

The controller is interesting, but in all honesty there isnt much else going for it.

For a while now if an enthusiast wanted to play on the big screen s/he would either build a dedicated mini-ITX computer or just connect their computer to the tv and buy an Xbox360 Controller or a wireless mouse and keyboard. I think this is more aimed for families/local co-op which may open up to split screen once again.

I thought Alienware went ahead and built their own console because of Valve dragging their feet?

Also Nvidia just came out with a streaming game console along with a VR headset too. The console and VR headset space is getting very very busy it seems.

If you have the money to waste, its a great idea. But its more worth it to build a mini machine and get a hdmi cable. The controller looks interesting though.

It's an interesting idea, but I'm forever part of the PC Master Race. Only consoles I still love not based on nostalgia would be the SNES and Sega Dreamcast.
