Wireless strength issue

So heres the dilemma: my mom is retired from the AF Reserves and has a smart tv. She loves to watch Netflix on it, but a big problem according to her is buffering when it comes to the signal of her tv receiving the signal. She mainly stays in the living room, which is pretty much opposite of where the wireless router is, which is in her office. However, there is a wireless router setup upstairs, pretty much right above the office.

My suggestion is to get some kinda setup created upstairs that will be in the middle where it can send signal downstairs to help improve the signal (there really is no way to get this idea to work downstairs because of how the house is created). Originally my first thought was to look into an ethernet port on the living room, but the house is so old that theres no ethernet port that was installed there.

Overall, I am looking for a rather affordable solution. If there is such an idea that we can do for free, I am all for it. Maybe a signal antenna that can extend the signal?

Like usual, I am all eyes to whatever kind of solution is available.
 
Please tell me you guys have a 5Ghz router of some sort. That will help tremendously.
 
If you only need the boost for the TV, go with Wize's option, though if the house is REALLY old, the electrical system may degrade the signal.

If you want other devices to have a boosted signal as well, get a wireless repeater. Many access points and wireless routers have this option. Setup would be similar to El Steve's reply.

Also, if possible, make sure it is a weak signal issue before spending money on boosting the signal. Either set a laptop in the same location to check signal strength, or if the TV has the option, check the signal on it.

Yeah wasn't sure..how effective it was going to be.
 
Yes, If it is just the TV -- A simple signal extender is all you need. I only did my the router fix because I had one lying around the house.

You might want to double check on that, 5Ghz may have better noise immunity but it has less range over regular 2.4Ghz. So I highly doubt its gonna help in this case.
 
Oh yes, the router is a 5ghz router. Its 802.11n I believe. But again, its really all a matter of location. I guess my mom thought that would be a good idea. Then again, shes only been in this house since July of last year. I believe if anything, that outlet idea sounds like the best possible option. I will show it to her because I frankly have never seen anything like that before, but seeing as how its discounted right now, I believe that she will prob spend the $$ for it.
 
now is your isp cable, dsl, satelite or fixed wireless?

If it is cable is it connected so it will run to every coax outlet in your house?

If it is dsl are there other phone jacks to move modem/router to a better location in the house. (can be a solution if your isp is cable)

If you are on satellite internet chances are there is not much you can do due to the way it works and will always have high latency issues which can cause buffering issues

Not to familiar with fixed wireless since it is not main stream and have not tried this type of service yet.

We've had several customers running the fixed wireless. Seems to work well, you don't get the latency issues like with Satellite, but can still be affected by weather etc...
 
They're the same thing, just different manufacturers. Go with the cheaper of the 2, though there isn't much difference.
 
So my mom wants to make sure that everyone is overall happy with this decision. No one has any extra input that they wish to give?
