Thoughts on EVGA GTX 960 Cards

Hey everyone,

I just snatched up 2x EVGA GTX 960 today and I got to say, these things are badass. Fans dont kick in until absolutely needed, overall quite, high benchmarks and it came with cool stickers. I mean c'mon, who doesnt like stickers lol.


Just wondering what everyones thoughts are on these new GTX 960 and 970 lines.
 
Well they are solid cards with extremely low power consumtion compared to there predecessors. They only draw back was the scandal about the GTX 970 only actually having 3,5 Gb of fast VRAM and the last 500 mb being slower.

I hadn't heard that one.

I have GTX 970. It reads as 4gb of memory.
 
Hmm thats odd, I was considering taking back these 960's and paying the difference for the 970's. Thats very strange though, it has to be a fluke thing as EVGA of all manufactures sure wouldn't want a false advertising claim on their name. Gotta say though, these things consume next to no power what so ever. I also like the Precision X software EVGA has. At peak gaming in BF, ive gotten this thing up 70degrees Celsius overclocked with the fan only at 40% so these things do have a nice kick behind them.

Yes it reads 4GB. But once you write past 3.5GB the performance tends to dip. because of the memory bus isn't one contiguous 4GB memory. Instead its has two blocks, the lower 3.5GB has faster memory when compared to upper 500MB. I'm not sure if they have fixed issue with newer models.

Ill have to give that a read. Its weird they would even release a card in such a state especially under the Nvidia name.
 
Just a correction: It wasn't the manufacturers falsely advertising on purpose. The fault lies with nVidia as they were the ones that gave out the specs. Now should the manufacturers known better? Oh yeah. Do they feel bad about that? Definitely. EVGA, Gigabyte, ASUS all have agreed to exchanges/refunds for customers that were upset about it, or even additional freebies (like games, etc.) to make up for the mess. As for EVGA, I've been using EVGA cards for almost 10 years now. If you buy a card, make sure you log into their website and register the card to your account. Limited Lifetime Warranty has its benefits. Don't know if that's still available for new cards, but EVGA has been really good to me when it comes to RMA's and rebates as well ($50 MIR, had a heatsink fan die on my 9800GX2, got a brand new GTX 285 as a replacement (because they stopped making the 9800GX2)) I highly recommend them.
 
I have been using EVGA cards for some time as well. Never had an issue. Just wish I had gotten the 970 instead of the 960's for the sake of getting evga freebies. They tend to give out some good stuff lol

Yeah, I agree my GTX 570 got busted and they sent me new one. warranty wise they only have 2-3 years depending on the card. But you can extend the warranty if drop some cash.

Hmp, didn't know that.

haven't seen an issue yet. don't know if I actually registered it either.
 
I was thinking of getting my grandfather one of the evga 960's as a surprise present to upgrade his current machine.
He's running a GT 240 that he bought new all those years ago. And yet it still runs battlefield and planetside perfectly :) love it.
