Tech Help Need A New Graphics Card

Hey All,

I would like to see if anyone can find me a good graphics card that has 4GB of RAM.
The card that I have now is over a year old and when I got it it was at its end of being a good graphics card.
I need a new one because a good amount of the current games that I play need more than 2GB.

I have been looking at the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 w/ 4GB RAM.
That card runs about $350. If someone can find one that is slightly less but the same card that would be great.
If there is a different card that is better than the one I mentioned then please let me know.
Price Range: $300-$350 the highest that I can probably go is $400.

PS, I would make my own but I do not have the parts to make one :)

If you are getting 970 be well aware that you are going to run into issues one you access past 3.5GB.

You would make your own video card? Most people don't have the parts to make one; that's why we buy them from manufacturer's like EVGA, Gigabyte, and XFX to name a few. Most, if not all, people do NOT build their own GPU...

Go to newegg.com, use the advanced search funtion and it'll spit out what cards are available. Or you can do the same thing with pcpartspicker.com
 
I know that is impossible to make a video card. Just joking around there with that last part.
I have heard of Gigabyte, EVGA and XFX, I have built my own computer a few times.
EVGA or XFX could be one of the brands that I would like to look into.

Would ASUS be a good brand when dealing with graphics cards?

ASUS is a good brand. The top three in my opinion for the GTX 970s are EVGA, Gigabyte, and ASUS. They all have different clock speeds, and cooling methods (like Gigabyte's Windforce II). I believe Anandtech did a review comparing them all. You can also check out MaximumPC.com because I know they did compare several different GTX 970s/980s.
 
I am leaning towards getting an ASUS video card because in the past I had one and it was really good with no issues at all. The only reason why I want a graphics card with high RAM is because I want to play all my games in max settings without it glitching, freezing up on me or crashing the game. I might wait for a few more months seeing as the card that I have now is alright and still working fine. Eventually I will need a new card as the one that I have is well over a year.

And here I play with a GTX 560 Ti and doing fine with high detail.... You do realize high RAM isn't the entire part that defines how good the GPU is; instead of the 960 you should of gone with the 970 or 980 instead.
 
I am still doing research on video cards as I don't have the money to get one right now. I'd prefer a graphics card that can support max settings on the current video games that are out and will be coming out this year. I used to know a lot about graphics cards but have taken a break from computer work.

Dude, I'm playing on a GT 240 that my grandfather bought NEW!! But it runs everything well. I'm gonna get him a surprise present for his birthday of a 970, and this thread helped a lot. The EVGA on newegg is the one I'm looking at, and the whole 3.5gb thing doesn't really bother me that much.

Mac did you end up deciding. I know the focus has been entirely NVIDIA here and am not sure if your comfortable with AMD but the rough equivalent benchmark wise to the 970 is the 290x radeon 4 gig there is even a 8 gig version for 359 now but the 4 gig goes about 300.

I mention this not to try and sway you from the 970 but just to make you aware of the alternative that can perform just as well according to most benchmarking websites.
 
I have not decided as I have only been looking for one, waiting for the right one. I can go for Radeon it is just that I have had no problems in the past when it came to AMD. The Radeon card that I have now is good but I have had games crash on me.

The one Radeon 290x 8GB you mentioned has some good reviews. A little on the expensive side but I can just save up for it. Thanks for the recommendation Matt98 i will probably get that card at some point.
 
I have the gigabyte GTX 970 and I love it! All games are flawless at max settings, including streaming... I recommend the gigabyte GTX 970 G1 cause that's the gaming edition that comes overclocked compared to the other brands.
 
Well it seems like I have come to a decision on two graphics cards that are both good. If there are graphics cards better then the ones I posted let me know.

GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 970 4GB

or

XFX Radeon R9 290X 8GB

The card that I currently have is not able to play most of my games on max setting without glitching, lagging, freezing or crashing on me, like GTA V, Battlefield 4 and most of my high-end games will just not be crisp gameplay. The low end games that I have are fine because they use not much of anything.

In the end I might need to upgrade my PSU because I only have a 750W because the graphics cards that I posted and the current ones need a good amount of power from the PSU and a new case because if I go for 2 graphics card ill need the space and the current case that I have is no good for that.

I just bought a gtx 960 w/ 2gb and I already feel limited... the card just came out Feburary.. I'll wait for 8GB models ...uggh soo pissed
