We were talking about this yesterday evening, and I thought it would be good to share with everyone.

Dont get me wrong, I dont expect people to play differently than they normally do.. having said that, please keep in mind that when trying to get the server started, maybe, just maybe you could NOT use a deployed MG with 3v3. Or camp a corner while prone with a thompson near the enemy spawn. These are 2 examples that dont allow the server to fill as fast as it normally would. Public players and members alike do things like this, and rage at things like this and leave. Instead, maybe try a weapon class that you dont normally use, for practice, or if you want the MG class for later when it fills up, either just rambo or pick up other weapons while keeping the class.

Once it gets half full or more, knock yourself out! Play as you normally would, the hardest part of getting the server started is over.

This game is slowly dying away. We are doing a GREAT job keeping players interested and coming back, but even those are slowly gravitating away, to other games. Filling the servers used to be easy. Donner and Ava were full already, spend a few minutes in Kalt, then off to Rotation, going back if necessary. Now, Donner empties easily, Ava is half full, Kalt seems to be doing alright, even later in the evening... and Rotation sits empty because we spend all our time keeping the other 3 going, and its getting harder and harder to fill when people play dirty. We, of course, cant do anything about pubs that play this way, but our members could do a little more to help out when the server is not populated enough.

Thanks for the time!

Thanks for the info Q. I agree with what you said about cheap tactics being used when the server is at a low pop. It can kill the server if it goes on for long enough. Now I'm not saying I'm a saint, because I sometimes use cheap tactics, but I'll try to not use them when the server is trying to get filled. Everyone should at least try to keep the servers going by not using cheap tactics. It is a dying game after all.

Another example might be capping the mid-Flag. With low server-populations, I tend to just run around, cap the other flags , etc, but not mid. It can be a little annoying to consistently have a 3-5 person team finishing the round.

On kalt, do what I do. play soccer/football. start with a barrel in Axis spawn and see if you can get it all the way to Allied spawn :)

But Tip, how am I going to get my maximum number of points to be the best ever if I don't set up my mg 3v3

Thankyou q-tip, i completly agree with you !
i've had some of these problems in the past when trying to fill the donner server.

Very good points Tip, we were discussing this the other day, because from the standpoint of the regulars who go into the servers daily to help get them going, it becomes very frustrating filling up a sever to have it completely undone by people who are just trying to play over competitively for their own personal reasons. Now we would never ask anyone to change their play style in game, however we would atleast like you to understand that while we are trying to fill servers, in order to keep our servers full and running that you atleast make it as fair and possible for both teams so that everyone will stick around a play.

This includes:
Evening up the teams if you see that one team keeps getting rolled continuously, hop on over and give them a hand, even if it makes the team slightly uneven. Also ask if anyone on their team has been AFK, try helping them out by making sure everyone on their team is playing, trying to help them out.

Avoid hiding corners and cheap spots Nothing will empty a low pop server then someone hiding in a corner waiting for people to just pass by them While it may be enjoyable for you, its agitating for other players and they will soon leave

Avoid double caps when possible Unless the pubbers are crying for your help at mid, avoid capping these until the competitive level is high enough to sustain the chance of a cap out. 2 minute cap out rounds empty a server faster then try hards. Remember this is a competitive game, if they continue to lose, they will leave and go else where.

Talk to the regular players in game encourage them, if they make a nice shot, let them know, give them !ups have fun with them. Keep them engaged in the game. Too often we keep our selves pre occupied with chatter in TS3 that we often forget about talking in game. (I am as much at fault in this as anyone) We need to remember that these players in server like communication as well.

These and many other things help keep people in our servers, we just want to keep our servers going into the future as well as they have been run for the last 9 years! Can you think of many other game platforms that have kept servers for 9 years?? Its an unbelievable concept and something we should all be extremely proud of.

Keep up the hard work!!

All good points everyone and noted. The problem I see the most is evening up the teams from eGO members. I have always jumped to even up the teams. Many of our members new and old refuse to play Allies or refuse to play Axis even when teams are unbalanced. I see this every time I play on our servers. I will not name names, but most of these members are never in Teamspeak, nor do they participate in events or the forums. You can check personal DODS Players pages and see those members that only play one side or the other.

I agree 100%. When I play dods I just want to never let go of my W key and try to make stupid prefire shots. Its annoying when its 6v6 with 2 snipers a rocket and an mg

right! excellent points, everyone. I didnt want this to be a negative thing at all... dont think I am singling anyone out... the whole point is to have our servers do as well as possible, and if we all chip in, we can get them full quickly with minimal people leaving

Thanks for the input! keep your chins up, lets do this!

This makes sense to me. There are enough glory hounds out there as it is. Captures are where its at anyway. Always has been. Go assault to get it going I say.

I do this almost everyday, and usually I get flack for running around not capping mid from the e-hero pubs. Once I explain why I'm not capping out, some understand and some try harder to thwart my efforts to not kill the server.

My experience, but I don't let it get me down!

Definitely good to be more conscious about as we are all looking for full server play.

Ill name them all for you.. ill rat them out. lol

Point player always play for points, so for them not to use,mg,sniper, or camp is out of the question. It takes a special player to realise that the game can be fun with limited players who do not camp etc.
So play for fun and watch the server fill up.

nice post I play on the avalanche server 247 one and starting to open up to more of the map and let me tell you its more fun to get objectives you learn players more etc good advice thanks see ya on servers
Jaka

Its not just that imo. I've been playing on avalanche a long time and there's always days where u just can't get a win in because all the good players decide to play on one (winning) team.. Good for my points, sad for the game. Sometimes i just lose two hours in a row because the teams are way off balance skills-wise. But I guess thats hard to controll with so many pubs on the server :/
