Nvidia Game Ready Drivers

NVIDIA is touting their Game Ready drivers that they release at or before each major game launch. The quality of these drivers is guaranteed with a secure certification from Microsoft?s Windows Hardware Qualification Lab (WHQL). This certification is a big deal for NVIDIA. A blog entry on their site makes the claim:

"As the launch of Windows 10 and DirectX 12 nears, our GeForce drivers have taken a major step forward: WHQL certification has arrived."

Many popular games, including two titles that eGO supports, World of Warcraft and Battlefield: Hardline, are on a list of 2014 releases that the Game Ready drivers are available for. Players of older games might wonder how these drivers will effect their game play.

Do you trust new drivers as they are released or do you wait for them to be vetted by others?

They're* but can confirm with army, GEForce drivers are great now that they are WHQL certified, that just makes them even cooler

With the controversy surrounding Witcher 3 and Project CARS on top of Crysis 2 and the 3.5 GB fiasco, I'm jumping off the Nvidia bandwagon.

I don't like consoles because they're proprietary, I don't like Apple because they're proprietary, I'm not gonna watch PC gaming go down the same path.

As long as I am able to continue playing games like DoD:S and TF2, I am fine with these upgrades.

Linux forever! Open Source for Life!

I am using ATI and AMD. I am running witcher 3 fine atm. :D. Steam is awesome. I got 20 percent off for owning the previous 2.

pfft keep your drivers, my amd is just fine.

The new controversy coming out in nVidia vs AMD is nVidia's GameWorks program. Developers were originally denied access to the code for nVidia-optimized implementations such as shadows, lighting, ambient occlusion, etc, while also being prohibited from working with competing vendors to optimize these effects for nVidia GPUs such as AMD and Intel. nVidia responded to the public backlash by allowing game developers access to the source code as of April 2014, but they devs are still prohibited from working with AMD to optimize the code with their hardware.

What this means for AMD GPU owners is that certain effects, such as the hair and fur simulation effects in Witcher 3, are not optimized to work efficiently, and may actually experience unsatisfactory performance (fps lag). This issue has been publicly commented on by CD Projekt Red (The Witcher 3 developer). In addition, GameWorks has been shown to not only hurt AMD owners, but also affect pre-900 series card owners, in Project Cars FPS tests. Ex. Normally the 780 will have a better performance between 25-35% varying by game and resolution. The GTX 780 lagged behind the 960 by 2-3 fps. In other words, nVidia penalized its own GPU's with a performance penalty of around 30%, give or take. Ironically, nVidia's Kepler rivals from AMD performed almost twice as well; this points that nVidia's Game Ready drivers are currently only optimized for Maxwell-based 900-series cards at the moment. (Disclaimer: certain effects must be disabled to avoid performance-penalties for AMD; see aforementioned hair effect)

Their drivers haven't been an issue for me at all lately. I run 3 GTX 970s; two in my desktop and one in my laptop. Always been very useful

I trust them till they fail, then I just go back to the latest one that worked....:P

I trust all drivers from Nvidia. As soon as a driver comes out, I'm deleting the old one and installing the new one. I think two new drivers were installed this month. I've never had any problems with any drivers from Nivdia with my old EVGA GTX-580's Hydro Copper in SLI. But I have had minor problems with their Beta Drivers which I don't install anymore.
