New Hardware New rig under construction...

After a few years of gaming on a very capable laptop, I've still really come to miss having a powerhouse desktop. I've been bitten by the NewEgg/Amazon bug and now it's underway. I've gathered most of the non-core components. Feel free to give suggestions or thoughts, either specific products or good brands. I've built quite a few desktops, but it's been a a long time since my last build.

So far what I have already:

-Cooler Master HAF 932 full ATX case (this thing is a solid beast! Probably the best case I've ever built in.)
-EVGA SuperNOVA 850W PSU (my first full modular PSU with plenty of power for future upgrades, love it.)
-Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SATA III
-LITE-ON DVD drive recycled from old desktop

What I still need:

-Mobo (Looking for something solid and reliable, Z97 chipset, DDR3, USB 3.x, LGA 1150).
-CPU (I think I'm pretty much settled on the Intel i7 4790K)
-RAM (Going to go for 16GB of DDR3. I don't feel DDR4 is worth the price because I don't plan on aggressive overclocking).
-GPU (Probably will go with a GTX 970. I don't think a 980 is worth the extra cost and I don't want to spend the $ for a Titan or something.)

Ok so with the GPU's here is a stress test chart I found that may help. But what company 970 are you thinking of? NVidia, EVGA, Gigabyte? With the MoBo, defiantly reccomend the MSI 970 gaming, I use that one and enjoy it, but the Z97 is a solid MoBo and its a nice one. For the RAM, go with corsair vengeance or G-Skill ripjaws.
 
Nice! EVGA makes a great product and that's a solid card! And again the Z97 is great, you've got a nice, really nice build there. Definantly stick to it! Are you going to build it yourself or have someone else build it. And are you going to go air or liquid cooling?
 
Someone else build it? Blasphemy! It's all me.

I'll keep the GPU cooling stock, but will probably get a closed-loop CPU cooler from Cooler Master or Corsair. I agree about EVGA, I've had nothing but good products from them in the past.

Considering the amount of negative news and reviews about that, I'd be surprised if a buyer wasn't aware of it at this stage.
 
I've read about that. Sooo what's the alternative? Nearly all those cards have 4GB. I'm not shelling out $1,000 for a Titan.

Go with the GTX 980, wait for a new version of the GTX 970 that doesn't have the POS architecture, or go with AMD's GPU's instead. Price-wise, it's either stick it out (and it's still not a major issue) or go with an AMD R7/R9 card.
 
The 980 ti is apparently coming out June 2nd? somewhere around 699? That will probably be the best bet for a solid gpu for the next few years

+1 to this 980ti is going to preform amazingly, and even possibly out preform the old Titan black edition, I know personally my grandfather is a computer guru and got a Titan X and it is a TTAAAANK, it can do just about anything. Got it on sale for $749 so it was a fair buy. And the R7/R9 is also a solid GPU for its price, I know the R9 290X 4Gb can compete with 970's any day, just never had one, never really went into Radeon cards.
