Hello fellow eGO members!
I'm building myself a desktop for the first time and would appreciate some help in deciding on parts, picking/finding good parts, and just general knowledge on how one goes about building a PC! :thumbup:
I've never build a desktop, or messed with PC parts, before and know very very very little on the subject and about how to actually build one.
Any and all help is appreciated!

Decided to build a desktop since the gaming laptop [read: craptop] I'm using is no longer able to run any new games.

Price range: $1,000-$3,000 but would like to stay in the $2,000 area.
Right now what I'm thinking of getting:

Processor: Intel Core i7-5930K

Motherboard: ASUS RAMPAGE V EXTREME

Video Card:
Trying to decided between:
MSI GTX 980 and EVGA 04G-P4-2983-KR
(Which is better? Is there any major differences? I have no idea)

Power supply: EVGA SuperNOVA
(I know nothing about power supplies, is this any good?)

Memory: G.SKILL Trident X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB)
(Any good? I have no clue really lol)

Hard Drive:
Trying to decided between a standard a higher capacity hard drive or a SSD:
WD Red Pro 3 TB NAS Hard Drive (Any good??)
Or
SAMSUNG 850 EVO MZ-75E1T0B/AM 2.5" 1TB (I've heard this one is good, anyone got one?)

Cooling:
DEEPCOOL Gamer Storm CAPTAIN 240 CPU Liquid Cooler AIO Water Cooling

Disk Drive:
I have no idea what is a good disk drive. I need one that can play/burn CD/DVD/Blu-rays. Any suggestions?

WiFi antenna: I need a WiFi antenna (is that even the right name for it? My old desktop had one that I got installed in it) because my router & modem are in the next room and I cant run a cord all the way over to my PC from there.

Case: What cases would fit all this stuff?? Needs to have slots for 4+ USB devices (Mouse, Keyboard, Headphones, Joystick) and 3 HDMI slots (for 3 screens)

Cables: What cables will I need to buy? Like I said before I have absolutely no knowledge on this subject. :biggrin:

Keyboard: What keyboards do you guys like/use? I've been stuck using a laptop keyboard for a few years so I have no idea what's good anymore.

Screens: What are some good screens? I currently have a 2nd screen that is a Dell glossy (Don't like non-glare screens) 24inch screen but I have found that it isn't very good for gaming. What screens do you guys recommend?


Is there anything else I need??? Thanks in advance for all the help. I'm slightly over my head on this lol. :laugh:

Just curious why do you need hexa core cpu and $500 mobo. You do not need need spend ludicrious amounts of money for a gaming desktop. A $1500-$2000 would just do the job fine.
I would recommend getting a this cpu instead and save your money for other parts which would be more beneficial.

For the GPU I would suggest you wait until they realease gtx 980ti, which should be released this summer. Another note, EVGA has excellant customer service.

For your power supply you can 650W-750W you should be fine, I would suggest getting modular one which allows you get rid of the excess cables.Recommended brands would be corsair,seasonic,antec or evga.

For your case, you can get anything that fits your motherboard size. The pricier it is the more feature and more pleasing to look at it is usually.

For your monitour, I would suggest getting 144Hz. I have not had one myself. From what I heard, people who play with 144Hz monitour cannot go back 60-75Hz. This thread indicates the two top of line monitor for 144Hz. I would suggest giving it read or do more research yourself and see what features matters to you the most.

For your storage, you can both get SSD for the files you most commonly access(ie: games,OS) and harddrive for storage (ie video, music). Capactity for SSD is up to you. Recommended brands for SSD: samsung,kingston,intel,corsair.

For SSD there is a new type of SSD which use PCI lanes instead of standard sata lanes which your regular mechanical harddrive uses. These are relatively new to the market, but are much faster than standard SSD. The only con that I can think of it is the price. Here is a video comparing normal ssd vs the new version that uses the PCI lane.

I'm wondering if you have completed your build or not a great place to start would be pcpartpicker.com they will go part by part and make sure it is compatible with everything you are needing for a proper compatible build. That's how I ended up building mine

What motherboard would you recommend then? I know zero about motherboards.

Ya I was thinking of waiting for the GTX 908ti to come out. I wont have all the money till end of summer to finish the build anyway.

I was thinking of getting a SSD for os/games & then getting a few TB hard drive for other files but wasn't sure.

PSU looks good. For your motherboard do you have any color preferences? Also do plan on going SLI/Crossfire down the road?
Also another thing, if you want you can add sound card for your system, it isn't really nesscary but for me at least I noticed difference between on board sound vs the sound card.

I prefer black, red, or grey so that it matches my other stuff but I'm not that picky.

Didn't even consider a sound card. Any recommendations?
 
Oh and with the keyboard and mouse, razer does an excellent job on those, the deathadder is a great ambidextrous mouse and the black widow is also a nice keyboard. If you want a mouse that isn't ambi, the ourorobourous is nice as well.

If your getting a headset, I would reccomend just getting a USB Mic/Headphone combo. Try out the Blue snowball for a mic, it's cheap(50-100) but is nice. Also the Blue Yeti(100-150) is a higher quality one and is still nice.

Ya, I was considering the black widow or the Corsair Vengeance K70 for a keyboard, still looking though.
For a mouse I have a Logitech G700 that works great and fits my hand nicely.
Got a Logitech G930 for headphone/mic so I'm all set w/ that.
 
If you using USB headset then soundcard redandunt.
For your monitors, are planning to play with all 3?

Maybe I don't know. I've never played with 3 before but I like the look of it and have always wanted to. Right now I just have 2. One is for gaming and the other has TeamSpeak, system usage, network usage, Origin/Steam, etc. pulled up on it.
 
Alright got the SSD. Going to be just sitting on the part & unable to put it to use for a while though sadly till I get the money for all the other parts.

What case would fit all this? I have no idea what to look for or what would hold all these parts.

Also, do I need a wifi antenna attachment to use wifi or are those built in to anything now? (I havent used a wireless desktop in 5+ yrs so got no clue)
I can't run a cord to it so I need it to be wireless.

All look good, for your case just buy anything that says fits atx form factor, this is listed in your mobo's spec.Also you may need dvd-drive.You can purchase wirless lan card which would take up off your PCI slots.

Oh ya totally forgot about a dvd-drive...
Any suggestions on one that can play/burn blu-rays/dvds/cds?
