[poll] have you noticed a difference with gamerail?

I haven't gotten around to trying it, thinking that it wouldn't make a huge difference. My ping is usually 30ms or less. But I might give it a try after seeing esteroth post that his ping dropped to 9. If nothing else, it would be bragging rights to have a single digit ping.

I noticed that it failed to install on my computer and now my comp has locked 5 times since I got rid of its remnants :-(
I'm not saying not to get it...Just sayin it's a bummer for me.

It hasn't helped me a bit and only seems to introduce stuttering into my TF2 sessions, so I'm going to be uninstalling it soon.

Still have some bad lag...My ping was 145 and its now 143. So I haven't found my ping god yet..

So far it has minor improvements. I was pinging in the 70's and now am in the 60's. Haven't noticed anything with lag yet (although that rarely happened to me in the first place)

I don't know if that's really the truth. The concept behind GameRail is sound, and I just need to figure out how to best make it work. I've decided against uninstalling it and instead I'm going to do some work to fine tune things.

Because I live in Albuquerque, and my connection to the GameRail servers might be iffy, the results I'm getting are questionable at best. I'm due for a complete format and reload of my computer, so I'll re-evaluate after that and see where I stand.

While it's a neat concept, there are a few things to keep in mind.

Firstly, unless your ping is horrendous or you are experiencing high packet loss this service can't really improve your life much. Thanks to the laws of physics, you're never going to lower your ping below a certain level. Assuming every leg of the trip is on fiber, you're still bound by the speed of light and that's ignoring overhead created at the transfer points.

Secondly, for this concept to work smoothly in the real world, both ends of the connection need to be completely open to the GameRail network. That means if your ISP and your game server host are both listed on their partners page, you're more likely to see a favorable result. Although, the ISP is the most important. If your ISP is not on that partner list, the GameRail client has to work through regular channels to route the traffic, which adds overhead. A lot of ISPs are not fond of folk attempting to bypass their network.

Frankly, I'll be surprised if the percent of 'Dude! It cut my ping in half!' stories is even a recognizable fraction next to all the 'Meh, it didn't do much' and the occasional 'Wow, it actually made things worse.'

Love the concept though.

Yea, it doesn't decrease ping for me... accually it decreases my fps to around 9-15.

It has lowered my ping from 60-100 down to about 15-30 most times (it depends on how many other people are on the school connection, really). In game, I don't notice a huge difference, but the numbers are lower, and I haven't had any noticable bad side-effects.

Just signed up tonight and tried it on the server they gave us. My average ping according to our stats page is 110. Tonight I was between 10-40 using Gamerail.

According to the site, if the conductor program would provide a worse ping than regular routing, the program is supposed to detect that and sit out until you reconnect/disconnect. I like it so far.

yeah its kills my lag a lot..even thought my name shows pretty high lag.. the gameplay is with zero lag
