[poll] Playing TF2 in a New Way

I like the idea of having the most team work as possible. And i'm also glad to see that there is people interested in the same concept.

I think it is a good way to be succesfull in tf2. Working alone is useless, to work in a duo is pretty good, a trio is alot better and a quatuor is even better. From what i read, i am not sure council would approve putting tags at the end of our names but maybe we just can make it unofficial on our Steam ID page.

Example, if you look at my steam id page, yesterday i changed it for something else. I wrote founder of warpath Mental Clinic just for fun really. I have not started an unofficial house within the (e) clan.

So what i think is: lets make it unofficial, we'll get a few friends together and work out a strategy. Because i do not think we can just throw people in squads like that, they have to know each others at least.

I'll talk to a few friends about it and post some more.

Good idea Stib :)

I'm kind of with Drunken on this one. Some of the most fun I've had in game has been with random pubs with whom I've never played before, but who are willing to work as a team. Actually, the second time somebody tried to recruit me into eGO, I'm pretty sure it was due to my willingness to stick with them as a medic and work together as a team with them in order to achieve common goals.

To me, that's a large portion of the game. Whenever an engy on Convoy calls for assistance at the intel, unless I'm on the enemy's truck, I almost always respond. I played engineer a lot before joining up with eGO, so I know how much it sucks to get fragged while still trying to build your Level 1 sentry. It's little things like this that can make a difference in a game, although I will admit to tending to lone wolf it some on offense due to my affinity for rocket jumping to put myself into a position where the enemy won't think to look for me.

Anyway, getting back to the point. I really enjoy working with a lot of different people on our servers and find that to be part of the fun of the game.

I'm with Drunken and Respawn... nothing official. Yeah, there are a few members that I work exceptionally well with, and do on any possible occasion, but when they're not there, I look for someone else to work with that can compliment my skills and abilities.

If we just stuck with the same group of people all the time, we'd never find the rest of the quality players out there who aren't part of our group. I know I've found several that fit that bill, and have even been able to bring a few of them into the clan. Now that they're here, we're all better for it.

Besides, the only way you get better is to be challenged. If I could beat the tar out of Drunken Sailor every time I play against him (heh, right!), it would cease being fun for the both of us. In addition to that, if I were to know what he would do in each situation, I'd grow accustomed to that and the rest of my skills would begin to atrophy. NOT what you need to stay competitive!

The whole point of this thread is to have people work together to achieve victory. I guess it doesnt matter how you work around it, at the end it is the player's decision to go solo or not. I like to work with some people, cause we work well together, i do not need to wear a tag to prove that i am a team player. However, i like the fact that team work is being promoted on the forums in any way possible. And this idea by Stib to create squads ( even if it would be complicated to manage ) is a very good way to get players involved even more in team work. Most people that will post in threads like this one show their active interests in team work. It doesnt matter that you agree with it or not, if you are posting in this thread, you are a team player. So the goal of this will be achieved if we have a record breaking replies. Then we'll know that , as long as their is =(ego)= members in our servers, than team work will prevail.

I wish that many of our new recruits read this thread, but especially those who havent joined yet. So if you want team work, join the clan!

Its kinda like, as an apache helicopter pilot, your co-pilot never stays the same, becuase it can be dangerous as you become comfortable around them, so every few months they switch your team up. I think this can apply here, Its great working with people and having a good team, but having a condensed team of like 8 people might not be a great idea. Not that it's dangerous, but for the same reasons given earlier in the thread. I think an unofficial group on steam would be a great idea. Then when ever someone wants to start up a team for the night, they can make an announcement or something, stating what server, what classes they need, etc.

I think it would be nice to have some sort of unofficial "squad" system where the point would be nothing other than to make things more fun. No need for formal competitions or anything special, just organuze ourselves within the confines of the rules of the servers and fair play.

I'd find it just as fun to play with my squad as I would ganging up on another squad with random members when my squad mates aren't around. Just so long as people play fair, don't stack teams or the likes, I don't see how this could be a bad thing.

My roomie recently bought a computer, so if her and I sat down together and got 1 other person, that could be some really nice teamwork right there.

I have read every comment in this thread and appreciate the thoughts and suggestions.

Speaking directly to Drunken's comment I think he said it best...

It does not matter to me who I play with, I just like to shoot people

That's good (And it would be a good bumper sticker ;) ). But not everyone shares your taste. From what you have written I believe you're a "Type-A" personality - you like to be in charge (and there's nothing wrong with that). Type-A's are often leaders. I'm not a Type-A and there are many people in this clan that are not. I like to play with people I am familiar with because then I have a chance to get to know them and have even more fun killing and teaming up with them. It's part of my personality.

People are going to play these "new" more social games in different ways and enjoy different things. I enjoy working in groups. Drunken does not. Where's the problem? I can get a small group of people going who like to play the way I do and Drunken can continue playing the way he likes as well. I'll still work with pubs, have glorious fragtastic moments without my team, and attend scrims. Drunken can still kill me ;) Kolak can still heal me if he likes. We are all still eGO.

I'm not trying to convince anyone that Drunken's or Respawn's or Fluff's way of playing is wrong and my way is right either. We just like different things. So why can't those of us who like teamwork find someway to get together and have a good time? That is my idea and goal here.

And maybe the idea is too complicated. So with your suggestions why don't we simplify it. How about this:

•Use vent - Can we create a simple room for people that want to use teamwork?? If so it would be easy to see other players that like grouping and ask them if they would like some help on their favorite map. Groups can be as big or little as you like with any player you like. The main idea here is people in this channel want to team up.

•Simple communication guidelines - These would be just some quick tips and hints that participants come up with to help with comms over voice chat or typing. I mentioned one before "Meeting Point [Location]". These are optional but I think they might help.

•Create a Steam "Teamwork" Group - This would help people congregate in a centralized and stable way as some of you have suggested. Problem with this is I don't want to be accused of recruiting. I don't know what the council thinks of these things. I am NOT trying to create another clan. I am trying to create a fun teamwork club for eGO'ers that are interested. Maybe I'll pm them and ask.

All I am asking for is a small place where people who like team work can communicate and congregate. I don't need much. A channel in vent. A spot on the forum (a page or sticky or something). A 'Teamwork' group of some kind. That's all I ask.

Thanks guys!

Alright. Last comment I swear ;) I'll try to figure out how to present a couple of these ideas to the council (if there is some formal process...I'm not sure yet). So if you voted "yes" or "maybe" or you would just like to know what happens private message me k. Thanks again for all the input :)

On paper I love the idea, but being the pessimist that I am, I'm not sure how well it would work in practice. For example: Say there are only four eGO members on the red team and three of them are in a squad together. That fourth member might feel a little left out when the other three keep running off to do their own thing. Another example: What if I'm playing with other squad mates and we have a plan to meet somewhere, and non-squad members are asking me to do something? (ex. "Medic, can you come heal me?", "Engy, can you build your dispenser here?", "Pyro, can you do your taunt for me because it's so awesome I need to see it again?") I also think it would be hard to get people on the same servers at the same time (not to mention on the same team) often enough to make it worth it. And if there do happen to be people you end up playing with frequently, chances are that these "squad-style" tactics are going to develop with them naturally anyway. I do have to admit though that it would be uber cool to hear something like "Sigma team, meet at location X and initiate Operation Thunderstrike!" I really want the idea to work but I think it would probably be best to incorporate these ideas on the fly, such as just asking in team chat if a couple people would like to try a certain tactic or team up for awhile. I think for teams to work their best they need to be pretty dynamic and I think that persistent private groups could stifle that a little. Also, on a side-note, I would recommend against having private Ventrilo chat rooms. That happened in my old WoW guild and it eventually kind of broke the guild apart. Stib, you were so enthusiastic and well-intended in your post that I admit I actually voted "yes" before reading all the other posts. Unfortunately after giving it more thought I'd probably change my vote to a "maybe" or a "no" if I could. On the flip side of that, I really enjoyed teaming up with you on Dustbowl and if you ever see me on the same team as you, I'd be more than happy to group with you, whether it be for some medic lovin' or babysitting each other's sentries.

I already do this with a certain group of people. We have turns calling out who goes first and what we are aiming for. We sometimes die instantly and laugh. It is fun, I enjoy it. But yes, please do spread your groups out. If you have a good relationship with some people with eGO, you should form these naturally.

Yo this is a great idea E members as well as EG and EGO member should all take part in this. teams i say should be established with ppl who are often on the sam etimes with you. INVICTUS IS WITH MEEEE!!!!

I really liked the idea of squads. We could have make tournaments for fun and competition.

We should choose people who will be leaders in =(e)=™, =(eG)=™ and =(eGO)=™. Like 3-4 leaders from each division.

After they could create groups of 8-10 or whatever to make them real team work.

Please admins, let's make it, this is really nice idea and we could develop atmosphere of love and friendship in Edge Gamers. :)

Sounds good to me, I already do this in my own way. I'll check server info to see if there is someone I work well with and join up.
That being said, I wouldn't do this with out approval first. Then again I'm a by the book kind of guy and always thinking of the consequences of actions( even if the consequences I come up with can be far fetched). This doing it 'unofficially' sounds like a (very weak) sort of subversion.
