"Why should I fear death? If I am, death is not. If death is, I am not. Why should I fear that which cannot exist when I do?" - Epicurus

Not trying to turn this religious, but this quote is important to more people than just me.

This is one of those "slippery-slope" areas, where it's quite possible to turn this thread into something contentious. Let's avoid doing that, and we'll be good. Here are a few religious-themed quotes that I like.

"All religions, arts and sciences are branches of the same tree." - Albert Einstein

"I never told my own religion nor scrutinized that of another. I never attempted to make a convert, nor wished to change another's creed. I am satisfied that yours must be an excellent religion to have produced a life of such exemplary virtue and correctness. For it is in our lives, and not from our words, that our religion must be judged." - Thomas Jefferson

My cinematic idol, without a doubt, is Sir Charles Chaplin. He was one of the most brilliant entertainers in history, hard as it may be now to appreciate how important he was to cinema. Here's a few Chaplin quotes:

“Failure is unimportant. It takes courage to make a fool of yourself.”

“A day without laughter is a day wasted.”

“I do not have much patience with a thing of beauty that must be explained to be understood. If it does need additional interpretation by someone other than the creator, then I question whether it has fulfilled its purpose.”

“All I need to make a comedy is a park bench, a policeman and a pretty girl.”

“You have to believe in yourself, that's the secret. Even when I was in the orphanage, when I was roaming the street trying to find enough to eat, even then I thought of myself as the greatest actor in the world.”

“That´s what all we are. Amateurs. We don´t live long enough to be anything else.”

and finally .. the quote that I think I want on my headstone:

“In the end, everything is a gag.”

It's back from the grave!

"It has long been an axiom of mine that the little things are infinitely the most important."
- Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

This thread has been necro'ed!

"To be great is to be misunderstood." -Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Silence makes for thoughtful thought." - Albert Einstein

"College is a refuge from hasty judgment." and "A diplomat is a man who always remembers a woman's birthday but never remembers her age." - Robert Frost

"A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools." D.A.

Edit:

I have to add the obligatory Metallica quote:

"Carved upon my stone, 'My body lies but still I roam.'"

My favorite quote ever:

"There is no wealth like knowledge, no poverty like ignorance." -Ali Abi Talib
