I really want to get one. Has anyone had one and can share the experience with it?

I've never had a pet raccoon... but I've heard they are not fantastic pets unless you have a lot of time and energy. Based on a few minutes of Googling, it sounds like they can be brought up tame from birth, they are cute and fun, but need more attention than a cat or dog, can be very destructive if bored, and are susceptible to disease. I would suggest really doing a lot of research on the subject.

Definitely make an effort to talk to a few (emphasis: more than one) people who own them and find out all the pros and cons. Are you going to be able to take care of it in a year? Five years? Ten years? That's the sort of stuff that matters.

I've had 3 in the past. I Rescued them from being roadkill when they were wee little things (Their Mom got... hit... and they didnt want to leave... Yea..), kept them for a few years, then had to get rid of them :(

They're a lot like ferrets, but more needy. Oh, and they like taking / hiding shiny things.

I would buy a baby from captivity from a breeder.
