I think it's sort of like the granny's that win in march madness by picking who has the more adorable mascot.

I think it's actually the opposite effect, interestingly. We have nothing to make us bias, we think only about points, that's it. I didn't even know what these players looked like till my 3rd year in. We have no US media giving us scare stories about who slept with/beat up/argued with who. Nor do we have any team or player allegiance.

At least on a sub-concious level, I think these things have to affect you as an american player, making your picks slightly less about points. For some it's even consciously avoiding certain teams.

Also, we are VERY unlikely to read this fantasy advice that is EVERYWHERE in america and is complete junk. Like this dumb pick rbs first idea. or 'top 5 reaches'. Seriously, these ff 'experts' suck.

Of course though, it may lead to some poorly informed decisions. For example I think I pick up players more likely to be injured/suspended/crap rookies than most. Looking at you ray rice, calvin johnson, and 5 starting players this year. I'm sure some could have been avoided if I watched preseason or followed a team or was just engrossed in NFL coverage.

Well, that was some week 3! Lots of big FF scoring (and some total flops too) across the board.

Kiwi obliterated the previous league record for total points scored in a single week (which he himself held) --

...this time dropping 230.45 points on a hapless Dr. Havok team, which could only retaliate with 81.70 points of his own. Congrats!

Match-up of week 3: (IO) SA vs. Poo's Packers

A match-up that involved 3 ducks (AJ, DeMarco, and Roddy), had 2 studs (Rodgers and Charles) going head-to-head on MNF, and an eventual <1 point margin of victory, easily earns this week's honor.

Waking up on Monday morning (IO) SA had to be pretty confident about his chances with finishing week 3 with a victory, especially with the big lead that he already had and Jamaal Charles still to play on MNF. Sure, Poo still had Rodgers to play on MNF as well, but surely the 24.35 point lead was insurmountable.

Of course, we all know how MNF turned out. Rodgers had a career day, throwing for 333 yards and 5TDs, accumulating a whopping 54.75 points. (IO) SA had to have been sweating bullets, until Jamaal rolled in his third TD during the Chiefs' comeback bid late in the game, to retake the lead and seal the win.

This match-up is sure going to be tough to top next week.

After the first two weeks it would have been a stretch to start discussing trends, but with four games (almost a third of our regular season) in the bag, patterns are starting to emerge.

Notables in Alpha league --

• League newcomers DVS_Mind (2nd) and IV Play (3rd) are showing the vets how it's done.
• Zer0 (1st) remains the only undefeated team in Alpha, and while some might argue that this is largely due to the lowest total points being scored against his team (413.10), he has put up the second-highest points in the league (598.80) too.
• After a big victory in week 1 against Dodgy, Matzwhatz' team has suffered through 3 straight losses, thanks to most of his roster (Romo, D.Murray, A.Jeffery, L.McCoy, S.Watkins, and most recently, E.Ebron) falling to the injury bug. I motion that this be henceforth known as the "Rivers trade curse".
• StealthGus remains the only team to choose (or refuse) to make a single roster move.
• Apparently his players hadn't fully recovered from their celebrations after setting the league on fire with an all-time record 230.45 points last week, as Kiwi's squad slumped to a >30 point defeat at the hands of Predator Lark.

Notables in Bravo league --

• Averaging just 1 roster move per week, Terror is now a perfect 4-0 on the season, already eclipsing his 3-10 record from last year and the only unbeaten team remaining in Bravo. He does face a challenging match-up this week against Tumblin (3-1), who prior to week 4 was sitting atop the Bravo leader board.
• The Matzwhatz "Hard Luck" award would probably go to Dr.Compton at this stage in the season. Things are looking up for him though -- with Arian Foster's full return looming, surely his victory should be on the horizon?
• Perhaps we should all stop giving tomi87 "The European rookie" any more lineup advice on Yahoo's smacktalk chat app -- he's done nothing except to roll to an impressive 3-1 record and an overall 4th place position.

Overall, there is still a lot of football yet to be played, and no one is out of the playoff picture yet, nor is anyone already guaranteed a post-season spot.

Match-up of week 4: IV Play vs. BaCkStAb

I mentioned that last week's MOTW between (IO) SA and Poo's Packers would be hard to top. Well, if a match-up involving a 0.20 point margin of victory doesn't qualify, I don't know what does.

So supreme was his confidence in his destiny for victory in week 4, that IV Play did not even bother playing an active TE (Crockett Gillmore was out with injury and Delanie Walker was on a bye).

Even as he headed into the MNF game trailing BaCkStAb by 17.3 points with just Golden Tate and Steven Hauschka to play, not a bead of cold sweat was to be found on IV Play's forehead. And rightly so, as they scored just enough points to award IV Play with as efficient a victory that one could ever hope for, and in the process lifted him to 3rd spot in Alpha league.

The adobo, it must be the special sauce in the adobo. I'll have some of what he's having thank you very much.

Week 5 is done and the playoff picture starts to form. There are no longer any winless teams, but for the four 1-4 teams, another loss in Week 6 might be impossible to recover from.

Notables in Alpha league --

• Zer0 (5-0) remains the only unbeaten team in Alpha, taking care of business with Kiwi via a comfortable 22-point victory.
• After Zer0, all of the other 6 teams in the ronpaul division have losing records, with the last-placed team in the division (Matzwhatz) being only one game away from the second-placed team (Kiwi). That's of scant consolation though, as the playoff spots will go to the 2 division winners, followed by the 4 next best teams, regardless of division.
• StealthGus is still refusing to make any roster moves. That's called loyalty to your draft class, folks. After 3 losses in a row however, it might be time for some changes.
• Despite only getting 12+ points from the noodle-armed Peyton Manning, Qtip was still able to pull out a win this week, lifting himself off the bottom of Duality division by leapfrogging Fluxion and BeeF.

Notables in Bravo league --

• DrCompton's team broke out of a 4-week slide in a big way, pummeling (IO)SA's team to win by more than 50 points. In week 6 he gets to continue his momentum against none other than the undefeated Terror (5-0).
• Bragging rights for first regular season matchup between buddies Rogue9 and Sprucewayne went to the latter, who ran out with a handy 40-point win. Rogue9 surely has week 13 circled on his calendar in red, as that will be his opportunity for revenge.

Just...wow.

Trailing the European rookie tomi87 by a bunch after Sunday's games, crom needed big points from Le'Veon Bell and Ladarius Green, and he got them in dramatic fashion, capped off by Bell's game-winning TD plunge which beat San Diego with no time to spare. The final score, 182.95 (crom) to 176.60 (tomi87); basically the two highest scores in Bravo league this week. You win some, you lose some.
