How to keep your Medic happy (Besides treats and a backrub...)

Being medic means that you get to ride in the backseat of players.

This means you get to witness the skills of players and therefore adapt your style of play accordingly to them. Also, you get a good view of the action and you can sometimes direct your patient toward a safer path.

But, i believe that the most important thing when you see a medic and you're going for kills yourself is to look around to see if you see a second medic, because one medic just don't cut it in a game when there is more than 2 pyros on the other team. If you only have one medic in your team and nobody wants to switch, don't hesitate to become one.

I've played with excellent players that protect their medic and it is always a pleasure do help them rack up kills. So, when you know who will get you killed and who will get you some points, you tend to focus more on specifics players. I'm not saying i only heal certain players over others because i dont. My death ratio is too high because i take alot of damage trying to get to everybody, therefore by being killed too many times i don't help my team as much.

So remember this: A good medic cares about his/her own life more, because he/she lives to heal some more.

Alos, very important for me: Medic chains is a tactic i employ whenever i can. It consists in healing a medic who his healing a player. I've blown up too many times trying to get my patient the health he/she needs, when i see a medic doing the same, that medic can know i will have his/her back.

Kolak, you better read these, same with Digital and David.

awww now, kolak is one of my favorite people to uber! it seems when we go in ubered, he does so much damage! ^-^;;;

Captain Mental, I know what you mean, I try to heal everybody, but my ubers, I save those for special people who know how to maximize the damage with them.

Agreed. I really appreciate being healed by a medic irregardless of class, but the teamwork lacks when the Heavy+Medic don't work together and split. Thats happened a lot. I have even seen someone Uber a Sniper!! A Sniper!! Arrghh. I think eGo needs to have a Medic class for people to take to understand these common sense rules.

Excellent points, Mjr.Degen. I can't count how many times I've died by trying to follow someone in only to see the stickies too late.

I played with a heavy by the name of Damage last night, who was a phenomenal buddy. I saved him from many spies, and he saved me from many pyros and engies. Like Flippy says, communication is the key. I told him who was where, he turned and blasted the snot out of them, saving us both. Unfortunately, it's rare when you can find a player like that... but then again, I've not played with a great number of eGO members yet, so I don't know for sure just HOW rare it is within our clan.

Hmm no man can keep me happy as a medic...

What if I rigged my medic beam to heal your sentry gun?

Can we get some signatures on these tips?

I think everyone needs to read them.

Many times, medics make or break the team.

But same goes for every class.

Something about retreating against terrible odds before uber runs out might be another bit of advice. I hate suciding on ubers.

I used to follow my target EVERYWHERE, even after the Uber ran out. It took a while before I got fed up with it. Now if they decide to act as if an Uber lasts for 3 minutes, running headlong into countless numbers of rockets and bombs, I duck off into a side alley and wish 'em luck haha.

ahaha! I do that too! Sometimes it's *almost* satisfying to go in, destroy everything, and go out in a blaze of glory though! lol

There are some people who get upset when I ditch them with 5% of my uber left, but hey, my record for # of ubers in a life 5! I gotta beat it sometime!

How about 10 & 11?

10) Don't be afraid to retreat for a few seconds if your medic declares that he needs health. The best players I've healed will work with me and will run back to a health drop with me when I get low myself.

11) Remember to inform your medic if you're going to rocket/stickey jump away from him. I hate it when I'm healing somebody only to have them jump away from me and leave me out in the open, unprotected. I always try to warn my medic off ahead of time if I'm planning on rocket jumping to a point the medic can't get to.

As others have said, communication is the key. Oh, and I want to second the advice to remember to tell them thanks. I may not notice the medics name when he heals me and runs off, but I will at least try to say "Thanks medic" over the mic, just to let them know I care. :)

I know EXACTLY what you mean. After I've finished ubering someone and they charge in like a Rambo-wannabe i leave them like a baby on a doorstep. It makes no sense to sacrifice yourself if you know you're going to die. There will usually be another sentry around too which will cut you to bits.

That and they watch your butt for pursuers

True but they may just want you to heal them once they get up there. Rocket/stickey jumping takes out almost half your hp and a medic would increase your chances of staying alive.

But yes I agree, it is important to let your medic know what you're doing so he's not stranded and slaughtered like roadkill on the autobahn.

It's always good to take care of those nurses. They can save your life, or they can watch and laugh as you die.

Here's another idea for maps like warpath where you have to run a while to get to the action after setup.
-If you are a demoman or a soldier, don't be afraid to hurt yourself while you run to the action so your medic will get an ubercharge faster!

I was going to say that :P

Especially towards the end of a match, you need to GRIND! I've had it happen all too often that we're in the last 30 seconds of a match, my bar is 80% full, and my patient either just stands there or rushes out like I already have that uber. If you're a soldier or demo, hurt yourself. If you're another class, step outside and let your enemies shoot you up a little bit (given that there aren't any opposing snipers or nearby minefields, of course). Remember, the German likes masochists.

Another thing; revenge your medics. While this is more for you and not your medic, it's still a largely ignored tip. If all of a sudden your medic stops healing you, take a glance at the top right. If there's a backstab symbol followed by your medics name, now might be a good time to turn around.

Finally; a medic is your friend, not your slave. I don't care if you're playing Heavy. If someone else needs healing, I'll heal them. Don't spam "E" when you're at full health, because then I'll play you a nice song on my bonesaw while you burn to death.
