If you're getting the Invalid Steam Ticket error, you are not alone. It's a Steam wide error, affecting several games.

Some users have reported success with deleting the file named "clientregistry.blob" from their Steam folder. Others are saying that didn't help them. In the past I've gotten the Steam Ticket error and deleting the clientregistry.blob has cleared it up every time.

This might be better suited for tech help, but I wanted it easily seen for anybody who's just casually looking for an answer to what's going on.

This is a STEAM wide problem as of right now. All games, all servers. It started on TF2 and went everywhere. Even COD4 got hit. Look at this:

*at it's lowest point on the graph, only about 200,000 users were on due to the problem*

There's lots of screaming and yelling about it on the STEAM forums.

i never got any problems. i was able to play all day and night. not that i did.....i do have a life lol. but i was able to :)

i tried deleting that file, it only prevented steam from starting up

I would suggest not deleting the file, just move it to your desktop in case it totally kills Steam, so you can put it back.

I never had problems with that until right now. :O

It could be related to the current problems. If you can't get a new file from the server, then you can't re-update Steam, which means you can't get working. It should be temporary.

I think the problem started around noon today, about when chrisbliss told me that the Badlands server emptied out. I went in there and an e said that 7 people got invalid steam tickets within seconds of each other and then a few more people got them and the server emptied. I started to get them as well, and I just restarted my steam and it fixed it. I guess as the day went on it got worse and then at peak hours it flopped big time :(

Ah, interesting to see that it typically has a nearly sinusoidal curve (though that does make the most sense). Those are very strange deviations. Could they have just been issues with the stats reporting?

Flippy, good point--if you delete the clientregistry.blob, your steam client will have to update, so if you can't connect to servers, it'll prevent you from getting on until the network is available again.

Last night's problem wasn't with your individual steam clients, of course, but some users did report that this old remedy did help them. Glad it's back to normal today.
