Ok so lately I decided to invest in some new computer glasses (and sunglasses by Oakely, but that's besides the point). As I need perscription lenses due to me being basically blind without corrective lenses I opted to go with Gunnar Optiks.

They arrived in the mail yesterday and OMG do they make a difference.

I'm going to wear them for a few more days before I give a final verdict, but it does make a difference.

I don't understand how people (non-prescription) can pay so much for sunglasses.. I bought eye-pro rated sunglasses for about $4/ea; yeah they aren't super durable but it takes awhile before I break the temples unless I'm just being careless. I got 5 pairs over a year ago and still have 3 intact/functional.

Oakley has some cool shades, but the price gouging is ridiculous for how little it costs to make them.

I guess if they last forever and are indestructible Oakley's would be cheaper in the long run..

I worked for an eyewear company. Hurray for corporate discounts. Got $800 pair of sunglasses for about $150. They also had seasonal sales where you can buy $600-1500 sunglasses and eyewear for as low as $30.

The reason why they can command so much is that the eyewear market is essentially split in between two companies. Most of the brands or stores that sell them are owned by one of the two companies. Oakley is owned by the same company that owns Sunglass Hut, ILORI, Target Optical, Sears Optical, etc. etc....

Ive used them. They just seem to suck with most headsets and i dont like the yellow tint they give off when wearing them. Other than that they do work decently well.

i only do Oakley or ESS Eye Pro. they offer more than just average protection, plus they both offer police discounts. totally worth every penny! never tried computer glasses though, wonder if they work with contacts?

I was very skeptical for years with Oakley and the pricing until I tried a pair from a friend. I used to go through the $5 Amazon sunglasses every month or so (losing them in the gulf, beach, etc), mainly from not caring since they were only $5. After trying Oakley when golfing (lots of water, strong uv, and reflections here in Florida) I bought a pair of polarized. I've had the same frame for 6.5 years now and changed the lenses for the first time earlier this year. Yeah, they cost $200, but $200 for 6+ years of use isn't too bad.

The problem with those $5 classes are they don't absorb uva and uvb rays which contribute to cataracts. Also cutting glares and reflections helps when driving in rain, on a boat, etc.

i also have a pair of gunnars, i find them helpful especially when i sit 16+ hours a day in front of a computer, i do not think they improve your visual gaming skills, but they do reduce strain, eye fatigue
