Heey guys, I need some help.

In the next months I want to save up money for a new setup.
A buddy of mine told me to buy this:

MSI Z97-GD65 GAMING, Motherboard
MSI GTX 960 GAMING 2G, Card.
Antec EDG550 As Power Supply

I don't know what processor is best to buy, Or what would be a good Cooler to buy for the board.
Do you guys suggest any other hardware to add, like soundcards or idk ?
I want to play games like cs:go and maybe battlefield 3 or blackops, idk i proably will stick with DoD
But I want to be able to play the games ego Supports at at least med graph.
I also want to play games like wot/world of warships and warthunder.

I don't really know much about this stuff, so i would love it to hear your suggestions, or changes :)
 
I personally prefer Asus motherboards and Corsair power supplies, but to each his own. As for the processor and your question, if you don't do rendering/content development I would stick with an i5. It'll be plenty for today and a few years from now. Main differences are more L1, L2, and L3 on processor cache and possibility of 6 or 8 cores (vs 2 or 4 with i5). I'd take the difference in money between an i5 and i7 and sink it into a better video card.

I'd go with something a little more beefy than a 550w power suplpy, too.

I went with i7 on my build because of some CPU intensive applications I use for Cisco labs.
 
My current settup is the worst ever.\
It is an computer I got from my work, So it is just an normal desktop.

I'm willing to spend arround 800/1000 max

I was thinking about buying the Intel? Core™ i5-4690, 3,5 GHz (3,9 GHz Turbo Boost), Processor
(FC-LGA4, "Haswell-R", boxed)
Besides that you say you should look for an better graph card ?, what would you suggest, i do like to stick with the msi, also trying to find a black/red design.

like instead of MSI GTX 960 GAMING 2G, Card. the MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G, or MSI GTX 960 GAMING 4G

If you want to do any over clocking get an i5 with a "k" at the end of the part number, i.e. 4690k. The k signifies the multipliers are unlocked enabling overclocking.

I know Asus has red/black with their ROG lines.

Pretty much just copied B's part list but updated it with the new Skylake chipset. Adds an extra $80 but you will be on the latest and greatest.
If you are not a fan of the 970 you can swap it out with a 390 which will be right around the same price.

Chocolate, there's an issue with the build you got. There's no prices for the RAM unless they're a combo deal. Won't break the bank, but it's another $60-80 on top of the $1047.90 that's already totaled, bringing the built total 10% over cost, unless you're willing to pay for that Mr. B.
 
Intel just released new desktop processors, so you might want to look into the i5 6600K + appropriate Z170 motherboard (ex Gigabyte Z170XP-SLI all black, would fit color scheme). MSI also offers comparable motherboards with black/red/white color scheme if that's something you desire.

Anything based on the Z97 chipset/1150 socket is already outdated at this point, but Z170/1151 will be supported for another 2 years (assuming Intel sticks to their usual schedule)

In my experience MSi's motherboards on the Intel side are only slightly above average, but there are some exceptions. I had a P55-GD80 which was decent for a 1156 board, while my P67A-GD55 was an absolute turd as far as overclocking was concerned, otherwise it was ok. Currently I have an MSi Z77 Mpower ($200+ flagship board when new) and it overclocks great, everything else is average though.

On the AMD side every MSI board I've owned or sampled has been below average with some being outright awful (fire), but that's outside the scope of this thread.


Moving onto the PSU, you're paying a lot for the Gold 80+ rating on that PSU, so you might consider shaving a few bucks there. (80+ bronze and gold only differ by 5% efficiency) If 80+ Gold is something you want though, I'm not here to change your mind. I will however recommend the XFX TS Series 650W . It is an excellent performer, and a bit cheaper than the Antec unit.

If you can live without Gold, something like the Seasonic S12II is an excellently performing unit, and more than adequate for basically any single GPU build


On the GPU I'd recommend a GTX 970 over the 960 if your budget allows, since the performance delta between the two is rather large. If you need to trim costs though I'd go with a 2GB version of the 960 rather than a 4GB model. With only a 128bit wide bus the extra 2GB of VRAM on the 4GB card probably wouldn't be worth any additional cost.

I like this build. Don't have much info on the EVGA NEX PSUs, but considering EVGAs past products it should at least be above average.

On a restricted budget, I'd question spending over $50 on fans alone, so maybe save a few dollars there.

If you ditched the fans and the SSD, you could probably squeeze in a GTX 970.

Shows up now, but at the time of my posting, the RAM was delisted. If you notice now, the price increased by the amount I said it would.

I agree with reflex. A lesser SD and losing the fans will bring the budget closer to $1K, even a bronze or silver PSU would work as a suitable substitute to save some money overall.
 
Not to discount the value of an SSD though, it is truly an amazing upgrade. If you can stretch the budget, it is the first upgrade I'd recommend.

However an SSD will not improve frame rates in games, so when trying to optimize a build for gaming (as i'd imagine the goal is here), I usually will cut it if it allows for a significant upgrade in other areas of the build.

I will take a look at the prices and stuff on the dutch part website, because i use the dutch alternate to order stuff normally.
i already found out that the 970 4gb is $339.99 dollar at your webshop and € 379,- euro in mine.
so maybe i have to take a look at another dutch webshop.

if i would take a 1151 socket I wanted the MSI Z170A GAMING M5 as motherboard or maybe the MSI Z170 KRAIT GAMING, if i would take a white/black design

Ah I see I thought the ram had a price, guess it did who knows lol. I'm with you guys tho on recommending a 970/390 over a 960/380, If you have to just use the fans that come with the case and drop the SSD to a mechanical one then it will be well worth it.

One thing to note is that Skylake has been in high demand and production volume is still on the low side (Intel said this will be changing in the coming months) But finding one is still on the tricky side but not impossible. Just keep browsing your usual and local sites and you will find one.
 
since im only gonna play the ego supported games so battlefield 4/3 bc2 and wot/world of warships dod css and csgo in high detail.

Do you really need the 970 ? idk i don't want to spend money on something i might not even use.
but like i already said i don't really know much on this tech stuff, so i depend on you guys.
 
Battlefield 3/4 are the only games listed that might stand to benefit from the 970. I don't recall you mentioning what resolution you wish to play at, but at 1080p none of those games would be an issue for the GTX 960 even.
 
One thing to consider is that a new build is future proofing yourself for new game releases up to the next 5 years. So if there are other games that you may like that eGO doesn't support, you can still get to play them. Easy example I can think of is Witcher 3; that game can kill your FPS if you don't have a powerful enough GPU/CPU. But a Skylake+970 will definitely let you enjoy the game in all of its glory.
 
What Reflex said it should be no problem, but really if you are looking at saving a few bucks, look at dropping the SSD and extra case fans. You really don't want to "cheap" out on the GPU when you can on other parts of your build.
