Sennheiser HD 598/558

Hey, I was looking through some headphones for my next pair, as my astros are now starting to get a bit warn, and I was wondering if anyone here has a pair of Sennheiser HD 598/558 that they use for gaming.

Are they good for competitive games such as CS:GO? How do they compare to other headphones you have used? Would you recommend them?


I am also looking for other suggestions, but these two are the ones that I saw most fit to my needs/wants.

The 598 are basically a direct upgrade spec wise. Lots of people use them for gaming. Obviously they are more targeted towards the audio playback market, but there's no reason they won't work for games. They're open backed so if you go to lans or such you'll still be able to hear people's voices around you (either good or bad depending on how you view outside noise's effect on sound quality)

What are you using as a source?

I've never personally listened to the 558 or the 598, so I can't really say how they sound, but Sennheiser rarely puts out garbage so I'd imagine they are better than average.

I can give a recommendation to Beyerdynamics' DT 770 PRO (either 32 or 80ohm version if you don't plan on using some sort of dedicated amp) if you are interested in a closed back pair.

I've never had a closed pair of headphones so I haven't really experience the difference, and the difference may be important to me since I do play on going to LAN events with the comp team. I'll look into the differences a bit more tonight

not really looking to spend more for a "gaming headset"

i looked into it a ton and its looking like im gonna get the Beyerdynamic DT-770-PRO, still have to look into ohm though, not exactly sure what that is..

ohm is the resistance, therefore the higher it is the more power it requires hence why 100 ohm require an amp (audiophiles correct me if i am wrong)

Seems like a lot of people are rating the quality of sound and comfortness over the DT-770s, and for only 50 dollars I'll probably end up buying these.
