Hell I would say best advice is just spending a few hours on anything that isn't CrunchyRoll![]()

I guess for broken English, limited selection, and subpar video quality it's alright @_@
I use Cunchyroll and enjoy it.
Fite me.
Seriously though, what is a good alternative apart from downloading series?

Some older fansub groups used to also stream series on their websites. Vivid and SS used to do it, not so much anymore sadly. But as Sano mentioned, there is a huge selection of anime streaming sights you can use that will have a much larger pool of series. CR may have about 60-70% of shows released since 2010 or so but they lack some of the series that I would personally consider gems of the anime world, such as Katanagatari. It may have a page on CR, but no episodes are listed.
Just in my experiences, you do not get the same quality subs as you would with groups such as Elysiu, Eclipse (rip :_() or THORA. It's easy to tell when time and effort goes into the subs. I find usually the anime that don't end up falling under the horriblesubs/commie umbrella tend to be of better quality.
My biggest gripe with CR is the selection of anime they have, for example they have like three or four of KyoAni's shows (off the top of my head Euphonium, Kyoukai no Kanata and Chuunibyo), yet they don't have Hyouka or K-ON.
I mean, for they price it isn't that bad for what all is included. I've found the quality to be better than some streaming sites I've found, the simulcasts for airing shows are awesome, and I haven't noticed any awful subbing (though that could be because I'm new to anime as a whole).

I can't remember if it was CR/HS (horriblesubs and crunchyroll are basically the same thing for the past couple of years) or commie who did Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun, but it's not always typos/mistranslations
. Medviah can probably tell you as well, in this show and these comedy/parody shows in particular, one poor translation will ruin an entire scene.
