Saw this just now and was wondering how beneficial it would be as a player and for our group.

Is this something DICE is working with us on? How much more per month would a server (possibly) cost? Are they essentially still using the current servers and just updating the tickrate? Which seems an important question since the many complaints of poor server performance.

There is no extra cost associated with upgrading a server to tick at 60Hz, only the associated costs of increased CPU and RAM assumption with the hosted providers agreements. From what I'm reading around the net, then can either be new servers or existing ones. If eGO partners with DICE, then we should be able to get these servers (updates) really easy.

There is no extra cost associated with upgrading a server to tick at 60Hz.

I highly doubt that's the case, currently we have 30 tick servers. Running at 60 ticks essentially doubling the bandwidth required and not mention the processing power.

This was what I was wondering. I know for more Tickrate, better server side CPU and RAM as well as more bandwidth is required, so will that be raising our server costs if we decide to host 1 or 2?

Battlefield servers are already costly compared to other games. I highly doubt we will be getting 60 tick for all 3 servers. If I have to guess lockers will get it the very least. But, then again I can be wrong.

I'm saying is that there's no "upgrade" fee, i.e. pay $50 a month for a 32 player, 30Hz server vs pay $60 a month for a 32 player, 60Hz server. With most VPS providers, they don't make anything spinning up, all the cost is CPU/RAM/HDD/BW usage.

I have talked with Killercankill about updating to the new tickrate of 60 hz. We have to be careful though as there are still reports of it causing issues on maps with water which would not work in shanghai or conquest all pop servers. Right now it would only benefit lockers until Dice patches things. I have not found any way through our NFO panel to update the server and would think it has something Host end through NFO if they would increase. As you mentioned it would depend on their hardware and how much they can increase and if it would cost us money to do so we are not sure. We have not found any options so far with the hosting companies to purchase such a server so it has to be requested i believe

OK. In the video level mentions that it's hard to even find one through Battlelog. I know it's a new thing that DICE has been working on, and I agree that for us, it would only really benefit our Op. Lockers server. It was also mentioned in the video that more than 32 players can still cause lag and that DICE is working on fixing that. The way it is looking, DICE is apparently using BF4 to beta test a lot of what would most likely be in BF5. I was just curious if we were in touch with our partners DICE and if we will be getting one. It looks like it will be a good thing for hit reg etc., etc.

We are looking at this but no move will be made soon as we need to watch how stable these servers are. While it will benefit us its not something that has to be done urgently. Budgets are tight so we have to balance benefit and cost

So do we actually have our own servers that we built from the ground up or are we just leasing servers from a server farm?

All EA/DICE games require you to rent an instance on a box from a designated provider. Unfortunately you can't fun a BF4 server from that old PC in your closet like you can with source games.

I believe that we should wait till dice perfects the 60hz servers. Making a 30hz jump can bring many networking bugs that will need to be sorted out by DICE. They can be bugs that bring server rank and player experience with our servers down.

found some info from dice in this pdf linked https://eaassets-a.akamaihd.net/dic...ets/patch_notes/HighTickrat_BETA_R1_R4_DS.pdf
This also gives explained the new icons for netcode we see on our screens that popup,
"The key aspect of this BETA is that you, the players know how to tell if a server is performing well, and if
your connection and computer is handling the increased load and bandwidth properly.
With the Summer Patch, we introduced a bunch of new network, server and utility icons that will pop up
on your HUD as both warning and severe version of the icons.
DICE SERVER RECOMMENDATIONS
While we allow the Rental Server Providers to control their own limits for the servers, we have given
them some guidelines:
• For 64 player servers we recommend a single instance per hardware, limiting max tickrate to
60hz
• For 48/32 player slots we recommend half the number of instances running per hardware
(normally translates to 2 instances instead of 4 per server)
• For 48/32 player slots we recommend limiting the max tickrate to 120hz
• For <20 player slots we recommend limiting the max tickrate to 144hz"

Thanks Crazy. That explains quite a bit for me. Now I know what those symbols mean I keep seeing. I knew the new 60hz servers were beta, I was just curious if we were going to get them. The low fps symbol I don't need as I know my potato is constantly below recommended.

Why don't we just test it out ourselves? Can't be that much of a financial impact to take the event server, put it on Lockers, raise it up to 40 Hz, and get 10-12 people on each side, see how it responds for a couple of hours.

I would be interested to try a Hz raise on the Shanghai server. I know there is an issue with the water currently, but the hit registration on some guns and especially the vehicles can be rather frustrating. I know as a chopper gunner and a pilot in the china side, many hits do not register. When driving in a tank, the main gun "dusts" often on choppers. The tv missle can also dust quite often.

Here is my take on this and would be willing to make more of a monetary contribution towards, can we see what the costs would be to run a test server at 60hz?

Rational:
• If the game becomes more "precise", I want that!

• In general you will be able to play on servers where hit registration, player to player delays and lots of other things will be significantly better and faster – some even say it is like a new game…

• Sometimes ragdolls fly quite a bit further than expected upon death -this one they can leave- I love it when Agent6262 flies in the air!! muhahaha

Anyone know if there is any update to this? I REALLY LOVE your Operation Locker server with 64 players and Normal rules! I'm just so tired of getting shot when I'm in cover. I'd be happy to donate money if you could raise the tickrate to 60hz or maybe create another server to test it out.
