Tech Help No wireless connection

Im trying to work on my moms laptop because the internet went out & I was able to restart the router & get the signal running again (my desktop is fine like usual), but for the weirdest reason, my moms laptop doesnt wanna show any networks available. Ive tried all possible ideas i can think of.

Any ideas/suggestions from other techies?

Its a Win 7 laptop.
 
Have you reinstalled the drivers for the wireless card/adapter?

Also if you go into the settings (in Device Manager) make sure radio broadcasting is on!
 
No, but im sure that it can be done. I also wanted to add that I noticed a new adapter which hasnt been there before. I believe its causing the confliction. Its Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter. I looked in the control panel for it, but theres nothing there. Not sure how it couldve gotten there seeing as how im the only techie in the house. Also what is radio broadcasting? Ive never heard of that.
 
So when it comes to radio broadcasting, i looked into the advanced tab & noticed radio on/off. It shows its enabled. I guess thats what you were talking about?

Yes sir, thats the one I was talking about.

The virtual adapter is for creating an ad-hoc network, or hotspot from your machine if I recall correctly. Definitely try uninstalling and reinstalling drivers first and see what happens!
 
Hey Simon, can you help me find a good link for the Ralink RT3290 wifi driver for Windows 7? I installed Windows 7 on the laptop (originally had Win 8 on it) & cant remember where I d/l the driver from.
 
Pillar, what laptop brand and model is this?

Also, just a quick shot to try that someone had suggested:

Windows 7:

Control Panel > set icon view > Device Manager >



Next...

Network Adapters >

Right-Click your Wireless Adapter > Properties > Uninstall (do NOT delete)



Reboot / Restart the computer and log in -- the Wireless driver will reinstall itself.

See if having Windows install the drivers itself will be OK.
 
Have you or are you abble to plug the laptop directly to the router you could also try reseating the wan card if none of the above work my personal diagnosis is a bad wan card
