So, I have a job interview tomorrow

Here's the deal. I live in Tallahassee, FL and my wife is living in Athens, GA (I couldn't find any tech jobs in Athens...came to find out that we didn't want to live there, anyway) pursuing her Master's degree. Now, she's going for her Doctorate.

That looks like it's going to take us to Indiana as we're not doing this living apart shit anymore.

I'm a systems admin, Citrix and Windows guy with a bunch of other stuff thrown in to boot.

I have to drive out to Jacksonville tomorrow for an interview with a company called Robert Half Technologies. I've read a lot about the company and there are a lot of people out there bitching about RHT, but it all reads like sour grapes bitching and moaning.

I've worked at the same place for the last ten years. I'm a stability kind of guy, I guess. So, I haven't had an interview in something like 8 years. I'm really out of practice, and about to poop mah britches...

I can't game tonight, and I'm not going to be able to game much tomorrow.

Go frag a few for me, okay?
 
It's easy to say remain cool. We're all nervous at an interview. Do your best to project cool no matter how you feel. You're obviously selling yourself to the potential employer, but be sure not to oversell the product--be positive but honest.
 
Good luck! Be sure to wear a miniskirt to the interview.

And if they ask what your three biggest weaknesses are, tell them you're indecisive, and shut up.
 
Best of luck to you! Man, interviews scare the crap out of me. Luckily college interviews are relatively laid back.
 
The most helpful thing I was ever told is that a job interview is structured like they're the ones in control, but it's actually the opposite. They need help, and you're there to provide it. You can let them know what you have available, and if you're a good match, then they'll fall all over themselves to help you to join them. That's how I got a job at Los Alamos Labs as a high school dropout.
 
The interview went extremely well. It was the easiest interview I've ever had, and honestly, that scares me a little...

Delrio, I may have blurted out something about how I'm afraid that ninja aliens are trying to steal my semen. Do you think that was okay?
 
I think that if you said something of that magnitude, you should have been hired on the spot.

If I ever have my own company, I'm hiring only the most qualified people, and by qualified people, I mean people who come up with the most creative responses to any question thrown at them.
 
Here's my $.02. When I was actively searching for a new job in 2006, I interviewed with a lot of technology companies like RHT. Furthermore, I just left a job where I was a site lead for an IT contracting company on one of their projects and was therefore in charge of maintaining my local staffing levels. So, I have fairly recent experience on both sides of the interview game. What I've found is that a lot of times, these IT outsourcing companies will have in-place contracts that may have had a vacancy for some time, and there will be a lot of pressure from management to fill that position. I actually had to go toe-to-toe with the Vice President of our division at one point because he wanted me to hire an extraordinarily bad candidate. What this means for the interviewees is that the longer the position goes unfilled, the easier the interviews are likely to become as the hiring manager is further pressured to fill that job role. You see, an empty position means lost revenue for the contracting company, and lost revenue is never a good thing for any company.

So, basically I don't think you should be at all worried about the fact that the interview was easy. A lot of times, all these companies are looking for is a candidate who 1) isn't an obvious idiot and 2) who has a professional demeanor. I don't know if you are interviewing for a specific position on an in-place contract or if it was just a general placement interview, but I'd say that if it wasn't obviously bad, then you did well.

Oh yeah, and the next candidate who mentions aliens in an interview with me will definitely not get an offer. I ended up firing the last one. Twice. (And I'm not kidding here.)

I can just see some interviewer in a suit pondering over the correct response to such a statement
