I use Linux daily, and I have not booted into Windows for a week. AMA

It's late and Doctor is bored. He uses Linux as a daily driver and does almost all of his gaming on there, save for titles like GTA V and the upcoming Fallout 4. I've been learning the CLI, have familiarized myself with various DEs and WMs, and can safely say I'm pushing Linux as a viable alternative to Windows and Mac a lot more now than I ever was.

So, if you guys had any questions or concerns about Linux, or just wanted to figure out how to hop on the train, fire away.

What distribution are you using?

I have a few Linux boxes at work, mostly Centos 7 (minimal install with a basic gui on top) for testing things for my Proxy and other Linux servers. I really wish I could ditch Windows on both my work computers and home, but that just isn't feasible yet.

I've switched a couple times, but I mostly use Linux Mint and Ubuntu, mostly because I don't have the time to dedicate to getting an Arch setup working. I DO want to explore Arch some day, though.

What anchors me to Windows? Visual Studio... oh can I not stop using that thing. And just the fact that it works and I rarely ever need to use the command window unless I'm doing repairs, diagnostics, and other things of the sort. And I think it looks and feels better than most Linux distributions right out of the box.

The only reason I'd switch to Linux is for dedicated server hosting and/or penetration testing. Neither of which I do often or at all.

It's not that I don't like Linux, trust me I do love Linux, it just has its pros and cons and its ease of use is more towards the experienced/advanced computer users. It gives the user more freedom in the operating system than Windows and Mac and has a good role in business and server applications.

And yes, technically speaking, Linux takes less of a toll on system resources and has a lower spec requirement than Windows. But I always find the difference in performance negligible and I've never used Linux solely to get out the extra bit in performance except for one of my old netbooks (that chugged along ever so slowly with Windows 7, I'm talking like 5 minutes just to load Google Chrome).

What anchors me to Windows? No matter what version I have ran (even Vista, had more problems with xp than Vista) from 7 to now running Windows 10 IP build 10576 have ran perfect from the first install. It just works. No need or desire to run Linux.

I have a dual boot as well, but seldom use it. I mostly use my desktop for work and gaming, both of which are primarily windows based. My laptop runs OS X
