Tech Help PC Will Not Boot Past BIOS

So, i'll start with my PC Specs

ASUS z87-k
i5 4670k
stock cooler
12gb ram (8 gb corsair vengence, 4 GB of something else, cant remember the brand)
r9 270x 2B
corsair GS600 PSU
250gb ssd (OS on here)
500gb hdd

First and foremost, I've never overclocked before or anything so I know very little when it come to this stuff. Also I'm at work at the time of this post, and will not be able to try anything until my lunch break (12pm CST), and after work (3.30pm CST)

What I did.... I hit F2 on a normal boot up, and saw in the EZ Mode window, that there were 3 "Pre-Set" choices Power Saver, Normal, and Optimal. so I chose Optimal, and hit "save and reset" and it brought me back to the bios. Assuming something went wrong, I went back to the "Normal" setting, save and reset, and it brought me back to the bios.


What I've tried to fix this,... Several Reboots. I unplugged my keyboard and rebooted (to make sure my F2 button wasn't stuck). I checked google, didn't really find anything. I went to my advance settings and manually changed everything to "AUTO". Boot order was correct. I unplugged my HDD (storage drive) and tried rebooting. I tried spamming f8 on start up and booting from my SSD. After all of these individual attempts, it brought me back to the Bios.

Lastly, Tomorrow, Nov13th I have a new GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0 and a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU cooler coming, and I planed on doing a clean Win 10 install on Friday or Saturday. And I wanted to dig into some overclocking to boost my PC performance a little bit for SW Battlefront!

Assumptions, Since my computer was running fine minutes before I tried this "optimal" pre-setting, I don't think there are any issues with my SSD. Also I know I have two different brands of RAM in my computer, but the PC recognized all 12gb and it has been running fine with them for over a year, however... I think the ram was running at like 1333 and when I tried the overclock I noticed it changed it to 1600? could this have burnt them out? I guess what I should try is to pull out the 4GB of the off-branded RAM and see if my PC boots. ( just though of this as I typed this up.)

Also last night I had a guy who was going through the z87-k manual and was trying to help me out. Thanks x64bitplayer! We couldn't figure it out and I told him I was fine with just doing a clean Windows install, but I wanted to make a post here, just in case!

So Im assuming it cannot find OS drive?
Is it set to check that drive first?

Okay I tried this on my lunch break and I unplugged my PSU, hit the on button to drain any power. Then took the battery off the motherboard, waited a couple minuets, then put the battery back on and turned on my PC. Now this reset everything, I had to set up the date and time and again, then I hit the save and reset button and it saved it and brought me back to the bios... :(
 
Sounds like OS went corrupted. Clearing CMOS should of solved the issue if ti was in bio's.

I keep CDRom boot 1
SSD/HDD boot 2 on my system settings

But for my drive boot priority in bio's it is
1 | SSD
2-3 | WD 1TBs
4-5-6 | then my old drives



If you make a ISO of your windows disk or create a windows with slip streamed service packs pre-installed then put it on a SD card or Stick it will install 10x faster


I still use Win7 and will continue to do so but this is a reference of how to slipstream with those tools totally worth it for quick installs, also run GOD mode too.

EDIT:
Also if you start getting drive errors or weirdness and can boot into system run a disk repair.

Click Start | type cmd "Run as ADMIN if not always running" | then type sfc /scannow

Let it check and fix any errors lots of re-installs can be avoided by this easy command.

unplug your SSD, see if it loads with the message "SYSTEM DISK FAILURE" or to that degree

Good to see you got it back up, just did a system image restore on mine crash after crash tested stock BF4 a bit no crashes, then loaded map packs out of 2 1 at a time started crashing game again not sure what it is seems like 1 of the map packs is bringing my game crashes on.

The restore was fresh boot only a few win updates applied the rest of the big ones are slip streamed into my USB install.

Slip streaming does save loads of time installing though it is worth spending a hour or so using those tools taking the OS .iso and putting the important SP and updates in on a USB for install it takes well under 10mins easy to install and already has updates.

Another useful tool I like for Win7 and still have a 64x Vista boot drive in system for my SSD tools and other programs I don't want bulking up my SSD is Windows update downloader http://www.windowsupdatesdownloader.com
