i know that TF2 puts the demoman as a defence class, but i always find myself at the front line... so what do you guys use the demoman as? an offence class or a defence class?

No vote for whatever the team needs a demoman to do?

If for some bizarre reason the team needs a demoman to make some cake and I happen to be a demoman, well then, I make cake!

Same goes for offense or defense.

Its a general guideline for beginners. And everybody knows that offense or defense the demoman is a force to be reckoned with. Heavy, Snipers, Scouts, Medics, and Soldiers fear them especially when they espy the sticky bombs all over the suitcase of intelligence...

Actually, both. When on a defending team, I cover the point in well-spread stickies, then run to the front lines and see how many people I can blow apart with pipes. Usually, quite a few.

On an offending team, I usually use demo for covering engie nests in stickies and blowing it all away, then defending the point as I cap it.

In tug-of-war style maps, I do both equally. Cover the previous point while attacking the next. That's my favorite part about the demo--you can be in two places at once.

I tend to play them as offense, but at least on warpath I find myself doing both roles. Lobbing is poweful as both offense and defense. When I sticky up a point, or a charge path it's comitting yourself to defense, though stickies can kick some ass especially for uber-removing sentries.

I can't really vote for one or the other, as I try to do both. A good defense is a strong offense. That having been said, the demoman is best when you can get the enemy to come to you. If one were to compare TF2 to a game of Chess, the Demoman would be (I think) the rook, because they lure you into a trap, then nail you. (One might argue that's the Engineer's job, but I think of them as the Rook - the castle that helps to build a wall across the playing field).

Depends on the map... Warpath is much more offensive than others, 2fort is much more defensive. It really depends on the map and what the situation calls for.

Really any class can be considered as offense, so you have to look at the demos specialty which are his stickies that are one of the best ways to clear a cap or hold a choke point. That, combined with their sub par rushing abilities lead me to believe they are more of a defensive class.

i always seem to use an offensive tactic where i will charge forward, sticky up an area, kill some enemies, move up some more etc. so sort of defending my own offense

i know you can use them for both... just like says a pyro is both...what im saying isWHAT DO YOU FIND YOUR SELF DOING WHEN THE TEAMS ARE EVEN... do you lay stickies only to stop the other team from advancing or do you lay stickies past the front line and into enamy territory trying to advance

I chose defense. Think about this: In the "Meet the Demoman" video, it shows that the Demoman charges into capture point C, but then runs when the Medic, Heavy, Soldier, and Spy come, he then plants bombs amung the door frame, and blows them to bits. So if you think about it, he goes from offense, to defense, this class is either, or.
