TF2 lag problem

well every now and then i get into some places and i just start lagging...like in the sewer on 2fort it may jump down to like 15 fps....and in large battles it jumps down too (sometimes not all the time) 9fps...and just so i dont have to make a new thread can someone help me with a "new" prob....my comp doesnt always turn on when i push the button....and i know some of you guys are going to ask so i will just go ahead and answer....no the power switch in the back of the power supply is not off....in order to get the comp turned on i have to manually reset the BIOS. this has happened 2 times...and the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL has not happened since i put in a new sound card so now i have a new prob.....seems like it is one prob after another :( ty for help guys
 
make sure that in your steam settings you have your connection set to the right bandwidth. when my steam updated it reset it to 56k when i have cable 10mb/s so i was lagging like crazy. just a suggestion hope it sorta helps

Thats the maximum for Steam lol!! I got like 30 mb/s download last time i checked hahha!!

My upload is like 10 mb/s now!!
 
noises from the hdd are never good, like everyone else said, back things up immediately and either wait for it to crap out or go get a new one.
also, make sure limewire isnt running when u arent using it. and i recommend only 1 AV running at a time. Disable the services if you have to.
 
now how about this prob where i cannot turn on my comuter sometimes? does anyone know how to fix this? Or better yet...is there anyone else with this probleim?

I'd say it sounds like a faulty psu, but it could be your power outlet, surge protector, or even a faulty switch on your case (that'd be rather obvious, though).

Does it tend to refuse to turn on when cold, or shortly after being shut down?
 
it doesnt want to turn on when cold...but then again i havent tried it when it is warm either...I have already checked the power supply...switch....outlet....plug....surge protector....but the weird thing is i have to reset my BIOS and then it will turn on...and i highly doubt it is my mobo because it is almost brand new
 
Hmm... I've had the same type of problem plenty of times, but can't recall what I ever did to 'fix it' (my method usually is a complete tear-apart followed by a clean OS install). Try playing around with the BIOS mem settings, and try switching the memory sticks around in different sockets. I still wouldn't rule out a faulty psu, or even a faulty stick of memory.
 
Sharp, with the number of problems that you've had (in this and other threads), it's starting to sound like someone needs to physically take a look at your computer.
 
lol Flippy i was thinking the same thing....but there is only one prob with that....i have no money rite now...Cant get a job because i have to watch my little brother and both parents work...:(
