Upgrade to GTX 980 Ti or add another GTX 980

Presently I have a GTX 980 G1 Gaming Windforce Edition in my rig should I add a second of the same model for SLI or should I sell the 980 and get a 980 Ti.

I have no power concerns since I have a 1000 watt power supply. Yes it's 100% overkill for my rig, but when I bought it last year it was cheaper than a 850 watt PSU.

I'm also picking up 2 Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSDs since they are monstrously on sale right now. Nearly 50% off on Amazon

I would personally go with the 980 TI upgrade. I am from the school of thought that one more powerful GPU is better than two lower GPUs. Plus a good chunk of games do not run SLI. Also, the VRAM increase will be worth it down the road considering that VRAM does not stack in SLI (though they are working on this).

Really depends on the resolution monitor are you rocking right now?

Personally I would wait for the next iterations of GPU's from Nvidia or AMD. Both are going to be a die shrink along with new type of memory which will be nice to see.

But I always liked the single best GPU over duel GPU's. But if you could pick up another 980 on the cheap, you would see a bigger boost in GPU performance with Sli 980's over a single 980ti (If the game even has a profile that works with Sli).

With that resolution you really can't go wrong either way.

Running any game at 1080 on max settings even for a budget rig isn't difficult. You should save your money for the next generation of GPU's or upgrade the rest of your system. Because if a 980 is 100% overkill, you should build the rest of your system to the 980's (or 980 Ti's) standards.
