Hey there everyone! With the spring anime season coming to a close in the next week or so, I thought it'd take some time and put out some reviews on the anime I watched throughout the season. I'll be judging the anime on the following categories:
  • Story
  • Characters
  • Art/Animation
  • Music
  • Enjoy-ability

I'll try to get a new one posted each day. I only had the dedication/interest/time to finish 7 shows this season, and I'll try to get them out when I can. Anywho, let's get started with the first one... Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry!

Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry

MAL Link

Story:
When I first started to watch Rakudai, it seemed like any other generic school/action/fantasy/romance anime, but it turned out to be so much more.

The story follows the story of Ikki "The Worst One/Another One" Kurogane. Ikki attends a school which trains Magical Knights called Blazers. Blazers manifest their soul into the weapon with which they fight and are rated on a scale from A through F, with A being the highest. Ikki, an F ranked knight without any magical skills, is determined to be the "Worst One" and is not allowed to attend any classes. As the school term resumes, he receives a new roommate, the A ranked knight and "Crimson Princess", Stella Vermillion. The duel comes with a wager: "The loser must obey any command the winner has".

After the duel, we learn that Ikki has a condition to graduate that only applies to him, and not the other students. He must win the Seven Stars Tournament. In order to win this tournament, he must win all 20 of his matches within the school selection tournament.

Characters:
Ikki Kurogane - Ikki is the main protagonist of the series. He is caring and honorable. Ikki, the lowest ranking student in the school, strives to show everyone that he is more than people think he really is. He challenges himself and keeps pushing forward to prove that he can make it as a blazer. And thus begins his transformation from the "Worst One" to "Another One".

Stella Vermillion - The "Crimson Princess" from Vermillion Kingdom. She is an A ranked knight and determined to be the best in the class of first-year students. Stella is also Ikki's roommate as the school roommate systems selects pairs based on compatability. In this case, pairing the worst student with the best of the respective year.

Shizuku Kurogane - Shizuku is Ikki's younger sister and the second ranking of the first-year students. Shizuku is protect over her brother due to some events that happen prior to the beginning of the series. Shizuku is very caring and protective of her friends and wishes nothing but the best for them.

Nagi Arisuin - Shizuku's close friend and roommate. Prefers the name "Alice" as he feels he is a girl trapped inside a boy's body. Alice is a primary support character for Ikki, Stella, and Shizuku and a reliable friend.

Art/Animation:
At first, it seemed like just another modern generic anime art style, which I don't mind as it is pleasant to look at. However, the art style, especially later in the series, really captures the tone of the characters and mood of the scene. I personally feel that art is a very powerful method of communication within anime and I felt that I was able to better understand the characters through it.

Music:
Similar to art, I think that music also helps convey the scene. Expanding to the opening an ending, it really captures the essence of the anime. This is especially true of the opening, Identity by Mikio Sakai. Within the opening's animation and music, it doesn't really give away any of the story, but of the intensity that you can expect from the anime. I felt that by listening to the opening, I was able to get very excited for each episode, and this is most certainly true when you knew something big was going to happen in that episode!

Enjoy-ability:
Overall, I really enjoyed this slow. Starting very early on, I could see that this was going to be a well paced show and I enjoyed every episode. I would definitely recommend this anime to anyone who enjoys shows of this genre and even to anyone just starting to get into anime. The generic shows always sell. But when it is done on a much higher level, that I feel Rakudai has reached, it really starts to show the potential some of these shows have.

Rating: 8/10

obligatory Don't Lose Your Way

The only anime that actually has a satisfying ending from this seasons generic harems, with that proposal! Haven't caught up on 35th Test Platoon, but I doubt it will beat this moment. I'd rate it slightly lower then MEGAs as it had a seemly slow start, I'd put it at around 7.5 to 8 on the Medviah Scale

Story:
The story follows Ayato Amagiri. He is a new student at the Seidoukan Academy located in Academy City. Other than Seidoukan Academy, there are five other academies whose students have a certain motivation and take upon their weapon (luxes) and enter the Phoenix Tournament. After arriving at the academy, due to generic anime powers and misunderstandings, Ayato ends up having a duel with Julis-Alexia von Riessfelt who is the #5 ranked student in the school. As the series goes on, it appears some characters are not exactly as they appear.

Characters:
Ayato Amagiri: Ayato, our MC for this show, is your generic dense lead who has little to no idea of his status within the relationships of the girls he is surrounded by. As with the recent anime of the genre, he is actually very power from the get-go and just kind of stays that way throughout the show. His power seems to be currently capped for reasons not fully explained.

Julis-Alexia von Riessfelt: Julis, the main female protagonist, is a princess from a foreign land with fire magic who is very powerful in her own right. She is a bit of a tsundere and only begins to open up later into the season as do most tsundere characters. Overall, not too much is known about her past exception what caused her motivation to join the academy. She as well, already seems to be at a skill cap for now.

Saya Sasamiya: Saya is Ayato's childhood friend. She is very laid back and does not seem to be phased by anything really unless it pretains to Ayato or her father. Although an unranked student, she has proven she can fight and isn't afraid of a challenge.

Claudia Enfield: The student council president and #2 ranked student in the school. She is probably the most mysterious of the group based on her actions throughout the season and we do not really get to learn a lot about her character, past, motivation, etc.

Kirin Toudou: Kirin is the #1 ranked student at Seidoukan Academy until beaten by Ayato. She is probably the only character that gets any development in the show despite being the one with the least amount of screen time (except for maybe Claudia). Kirin is originally a pawn of her uncle, but with Ayato's help she breaks free and begins to express herself with her own way of fighting.

Art/Animation:
Not really too much to say here. The art remains pretty static through the show, not good or bad, but it is within that generic modern anime realm of art. Nothing too flash, nothing too bland, just sort of in the middle I suppose. For an anime that is supposed to take place in the future, they do not seem to have a lot of technological development.

Music:
I was actually a little disappointed on the music front. I did not care too much for either the opening nor ending as I didn't really feel either prepared you for the show. I actually started skipping the opening for the last few episodes because I just didn't get any hype from listening. When it came down to the battle scenes, especially at the end, there was no music to build up to the fight and nothing within the fight that really got me excited.

Enjoy-ability:
While I feel the anime itself is subpar, it is something that sells. As they say, a bad day on the golf course is better than a good day at the office. I wasn't really able to enjoy this as much as other shows this season for a few reasons. One of which is that the characters were just so bland. I didn't really feel like I liked or knew enough about a character to actually care what happened. The story itself was rather predictable. The overused "bad guy isn't actually bad but is fighting for someone" trope is so common both within and outside of anime. My biggest issue is that the episode did not flow at all. I felt like, with the later half especially, events just started to randomly happen with no explanation and it was a pain trying to figure out what was going on.

I'll be watching the second cour when it airs in April 2016, but that is a review for another time.

generic/10 (5/10)

Story:
Almost instantly, I got a Pyscho Pass feeling from this anime. That quickly died as I got into the meat of the show. Although not as generic as Asterisk, the plot progression is the same just not as rushed. Still a bit fast however as it felt like they were trying to force so much content into a short period of time.

Characters:
Overall, I feel like I'd be writing the same thing as the previous reviews. It's your typical harem group of characters tying in to the strong male lead this season. There's also the girl of a higher standing, a long time friend, and so on. I feel that, although there was minimal development, every character at least showed some growth throughout the show.

Art/Animation:
As I mentioned, it felt very much like Psycho Pass in the beginning and I thought so not because of the character art, but some of the animations and scenery at night. The animations of the opening and ending really kept true to the overall theme.

Music:
I'm not sure if I'm easily impressed by music or not, but I enjoyed it. While keeping with the sci-fi theme, the music that accompanied the opening, ending, battle scenes, and more seemed to just feel right to me. Some of the more idle moments felt a little odd, but that didn't bother me that much if at all.

Enjoy-ability:
At first I was reluctant to watch this, along with the previous three, as I generally do not enjoy these types of shows. However, I always got excited when it came time to watch this once, even though I did not feel it was that good when it came down to the quality. Definitely a fun watch!

I did this review a little different because I was too lazy to write out everything for the main characters. But Mari is best girl.

6.5/10

Best girl looking so happy! You can't beat that!

Been watching Asterik War and can''t disagree with what you've said. The best character, to me, is Saya. Perfect deadpan voice when she goes "Boom." And a giant wave of energy erupts from her weapon.

Yeah, Saya was probably my favorite character. I personally do like that character archetype though, so partial bias lol. Whenever I stop being lazy I'll get the next review posted. Crazy holiday timing!
