Found Elder Scrolls Online for cheap and unsure whether or not to get it. Of course there is no subscription required now but what's the content like?

I don't want to get it if all I'm going to be doing is Skyrim all over again...

Short answer: If you asked me when it was in beta, when it first came out, or before the major patches earlier this year, the answer would be a resounding 'no'. Currently: the answer is 'Yes'. The B2P (Buy-to-Play) model is actually one of the better ones out there, rivaling Guild Wars 2 and The Secret World's models.

Long answer: I play it on and off, and as far as MMOs go, it's gone from being a stinking pile of crap to (IMO) a pretty worthwhile time sink. The thing about its B2P model is that you're never really screwed out of something if you stop playing for a while, since you can easily catch up from where you left off since there is no need for a subscription, and the only current expansion pack is cheap (or included free with the optional subscription, which in itself is pretty nice for the minor XP boosts and free cash shop currency).

The good:
+Last I looked, the cash shop has ZERO P2W Items. It's all cosmetic/QOL stuff, bag expansions, PvE potions that heal you or whatever, etc.
+The game has a respectable amount of content with three different factions, fairly robust PvP, a lot of shinies to collect and tons of instanced and open dungeons and bosses to tackle. Plus the devs seem to constantly and consistently give the game some love
+I didn't see many FOTM builds. There were some that were clearly better at some things than others, but you can easily create a build that's your style, with your preferred weapons, armor and abilities and still be effective, which is pretty sweet

The bad:
-PvP seems to be horribly imbalanced if you encounter a player who's been there since launch. Apparently there's no cap on PvP rank. My friends claim to have been roflstomped by a single player whose rank was in the hundreds; I've never PvPed in the game before, so I can't confirm this, but YMMV
-Alting seems pretty repetitive on the same faction. There seems to be literally no reason to make an alt on a faction you've played through before

Alrighty then, what I'll do then whilst I have found it cheap is get it, try it, see how it goes :)

Cheers runo!

I seen it at walmart the other day but was much more expensive, I might snatch it up, where did you find it so cheap LBrGaming?

It's a good game. If we there are enough eGO people who want to play it, I'll help y'all out. I have a Veteran Rank 6 character on the Dagerfall Covenant. The PvP is good, but it takes a lot of skill and ability planning.

I agree, I definitely did not like it at release. Several reasons. I haven't tried it since but everything I have heard was that it's much improved and well worth playing now.

Hope you like it and it goes well for you!
