Recently I came across my copy of the Battlefield 1942 and for laughs I took a glance at the system requirements.

With the onset of Battlefield 5 this year, I decided to share them with you for laughs.

OS: Windows 98/2000/ME/XP

CPU: Intel Pentium III/AMD Athlon @ 500 MHz

RAM: 128 MB

Hard Drive: 2.8 GB

CD-DVD: 4 Speed

Video Card: 32 MB

DirectX: Version 8.1

so......compared to my system specs....

OS: Windows 10

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790k @ 4.5GHz

RAM: 16GB DDR3-1600MHz

Storage: 1x Samsung 500 GB 850 EVO SSD, 2x Seagate 2TB Barracuda HDD

DirectX: Version 11

I think my system is...adequate... enough to play Battlefield 1942...

Amazing how far technology has come in the last two decades

Those were the days, before 60GB Steam game downloads ;)

Back when sometimes you had to use 3 CD's, or 2 DVD's haha

2.8 GB, woah haha. I loved Battlefield 1942! It's always funny to look back at the games that we all installed and what exactly it needed to run.

wow I feel old now lol You are talking about Battlefield 1943 right ? lol BEST GAME EVER and the price back then lol

Battlefield 1942 is the first game in the Battlefield series. Arguably one of the most pivotal multiplayer games, Battlefield 1942 was a defining moment for DICE.

Armed with the knowledge and experience from the spiritual predecessor Codename Eagle, the studio set out to create the game of their dreams.

Building upon and vastly refining the ideas from Codename Eagle, Battlefield 1942 let players engage in infantry combat and get behind the wheel of a variety of vehicles from submarines to battleships and bombers. The game introduced the signature Battlefield rock-paper-scissors gameplay, as well as the exciting “Battlefield Moments” people refer to when talking about their unique and unscripted experiences within the multiplayer game.

The game also introduced mainstay Battlefield concepts such as the tactical game mode Conquest and team play functionality. Actions like spotting enemies and repairing damaged vehicles are essential Battlefield elements that have been part of the series ever since. The fact that team play was highly rewarded was a break from current norms, and no doubt played a huge part in its success.

Battlefield 1942 propelled DICE to global acclaim and gave them a multi-million fan base. The game sold over four million copies and has won a number of awards, including the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences’ Game of the Year, Most Innovative Game of the Year, and Online Gameplay of the Year. Most recently, it was dubbed “Game of the Decade” at the Swedish Video Game Awards in 2010. Perhaps more importantly, though, it is the game that started one of the world’s most loved and played gaming series.

1942 was and is the best BF. I wish we could throw up a server for that. Immense fun playing that.

I could throw together a server. I think I have a spare Zotac Zbox somewhere. Or, I can install it on my server... It shouldn't be too hard. We could have a BF1942 night.

Only problem is, we need a good amount of people to join up. Having those large maps with 150% tickets with 5v5 is not that much fun.

I'm pretty sure the base game is still free on Origin. Is this something we want to do?

Yes!

Battlefield 1942 in my opinion is the best Battlefield game in my opinion.

Why?

Naval, Air, and Ground combat. You can man a destroyer. You can sink battleships with torpedoes. You can do anything your heart desires. Something I wish they would bring back on the Frostbyte engine which would make this game or type of game sick.

Forget levolution, the old 1942 system worked the best. Another plus to BF1942, vehicles didn't suck. Mounted emplacements didn't suck. Recons actually played a role besides sit back and pick at long range targets. Medics and assault were two separate classes

I'm down for it. I still have my original disks for it!

I loved the DesertCombat Mod. Flying the chopper was really hard but fun, and no stingers/lockonwpn on the map. Still have it installed but had to replace the main executable to find servers again. There are still EOD mod events going on (Eve of Destruction - Vietnam mod). BTW Quake 3 servers are still up as well...

The modern warfare pack is hands down the best addon. Fly V rockets, Jetpacks. So much cool and awesome stuff. The Bombers, and my favorite was flying the plane spawn point. I would keep that sucker flying up there forever.

I was honestly waiting for the part where is said 3.5" floppy drive...
