Sata cable speed

So I recently ordered some sata cables for my moms desktop upgrade, but then I come to find out I still have the previous package that I ordered some time ago. I decided to do a search to figure out if theres a difference in speeds of the actual cable themselves & I found this post on Tomshardware.com (mind you that they guy says that hes answered it many times in the past):

All SATA cables are the same except in quality - - they are just SATA cables. The different colours mean nothing - - just depends on the factory which made them. Some PC owners may prefer red or blue to match the other cables in the system case.

SATA, SATA II & SATA III refers to the SATA controllers/connectors on the motherboard, not the cables.

You can use any of those cables for any SATA speed.

Now, you may see some cables advertised or packaged as "SATA II" or "SATA III" but that is just a trick used by some manufacturers or vendors to charge more money for them. A SATA cable is a just what it is - - a SATA cable.

Sounds accurate to me really. Quality is a thing yes. But there will never be a speed difference. Speed is entirely dependent on the two devices on either ends of the cable.

I had the same question when upgrading my PC not too long ago, after doing some research I found out according to the SATA standards they made no changes to the cables. There are also a few independent lab tests you can find online that confirmed this.

Although I wanted everything to match, so I went ahead and switched out all my SATA cables to be the same color and design.

The principle with the SATA cables is the same with HDMI; there are some exceptions, but on average, speeds remain the same. The only variable is the quality of the cable used.
