best hub/port solution?

Does it matter what kind of hub I get? I want an 8 port hub and I want to run two gaming computers off of it. My 4 port router is already crowded.

I would never recommend a hub over a switch, especially if your network sees a lot of traffic. If the majority of your cat5 is in the same room then get a switch. If your computers are spread out around your house you might want to look into an access point. I personally run all my cat5 through the walls and to a central location. Hard in the beginning but pays off in the long run.

I have the Netgear Gigabit switch and it's legit. Really fast if you want to transfer files to and from PC's connected to said switch.

Check to see if your router has auto-sensing ports like this linksys setup here: http://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=139602
and if it does you can just add a gigabit switch on top of the router you have.

As already mentioned, get a switch (not a hub).
I don't personally own any 8-port switches, but I do have some 4-port (5 with the uplink). Make sure you get 1000/100/10 mbps capable. I have been really liking TP-Links stuff recently.
