Hey guys, my Source games like TF2, CC:S, and DoD are preforming very weird, in any online game other people or anything that moves lags, my ping usually hovers around 50 so its not that, and it only happens in those games, I tried redownloading TF2 to fix it, but it keeps doing it. Any Ideas?

We'll need to know a lot more about your computer and about the issue. "Lag" is a very unspecific term, you'll have to give a more accurate description of the symptoms and when they occur, as well as thinking about some of the following questions, and possibly providing them here. What kind of specs does your computer have? What kind of internet, and what sort of network? What other games do you play other than Source games that you can compare this with? What kind of FPS do you get? Do you have any background processes running? Are you using a torrent program, Skype, or running some kind of server from your computer? Do you have someone else in your home or on your local network doing any of the above? Do you use wireless internet?

There's a lot of people here who are more experienced than myself as far as some of the source-specific problems go, such as console tweaks you may have to apply if you have an abnormal setup or weird settings, but you'd probably need to provide some of the above information, maybe a screenshot with your net graph up.

So this 'stuttering' happens all the time..? or intermittently?

It sounds like it might be a conflict with an 'overlay app'. Try disabling 'Steam Community Ingame', as it's overlay app is known to cause problems in some instances. 'Dock' programs can also cause the same type of troubles, also, and be sure if your AV program has an active scanner that you have an exception set so it doesn't constantly rescan your gamefiles while playing.

Also, re-downloading TF2 shouldn't reset anything, as the config files are still saved. To reset TF2, all you have to do is delete the 'config.cfg' file in it's steamapps dir, and TF2 will regenerate the default config when you run it again.

I get problems once in a while with ill be playing normally when suddenly my character starts like lagging all over the place, but my ping is fine, happens rarely and I found out its the auto updating of the game that makes my game skip and such.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, but problem resolved, it was a simple rates error =)
