Hey all,
I know you haven't heard from me in a while (many of you probably haven't heard of me at all), but I'm trying to make a comeback to PC gaming after a couple months off. This year, I've been extremely busy trying to find a college and close out my senior year of high school with a strong academic performance. Pile on scholarship applications, an extremely busy theatre schedule, and my innate desire to watch every single St. Louis Blues hockey game, and I have very little time left to game - most of which I spend playing my latest obsession, Rainbow Six: Siege.
Anyways, to get back to the point of this post, I want to send out a sincere thank you not only to eGO as a whole, but specifically to the Battlefield Division. In the process of sending out scholarship and college applications, I've had to do a lot of self-reflection, and while I certainly owe a lot of my growth to the art of theatre, I also have to trace my roots back to gaming.
Having just celebrated my 18th birthday, I was probably a lot younger than most gamers during the "hey-day" (at least on PC, and here). I was always thankful that communities like the eGO Battlefield Division tolerated an awkward 8th grade, 14-year-old PBJ. Even better, you guys were the first people to recognize my ambition and maturity for my age. I was given the opportunity to admin the servers, spent a little bit of time as a PSC member, BF Recruiting Coordinator, PSC Event Coordinator, a Newsletter/Media Editor, and even some time as the head of Battlefield Media.
Those opportunities, though often short-lived, helped me to grow as a person and begin to understand dedication. They led me to "real-life" opportunities such as becoming the president of my high school theatre troupe, working in lower management as a 17-year-old, or writing for a number of Blues fan blogs. So, what this all boils down to: a huge thank you to all of you. Even if you weren't around at the same time as I was, you're a part of this community now and I'm sure you're of upstanding character. You would have done the same.
Thanks for teaching me about leadership and teamwork. Thanks for dealing with a really weird, socially inept kid and helping me blossom into a much more sociable young adult. I hope you're all doing well, I wish you all the best, and I hope to be back with everyone full-time after this college search and graduation is over with.
