Tech Help Need help choosing Raid card

So Im planning to use one of my spare PC as raid setup, but im not sure how to choose raid card that will fit my use. Mostly using as backup storage. I will be using RAID 5 and planning have it as cloud storage. My main question is difference between raid cards that are under 100 and the ones over 100 but under 200. What am I supposed to be looking for other than number of ports. I will be using 3 1TB drivers.

If you see one under 200 bucks it's probably designed for SATA 1 or 2. They are usually only able to configure raid 0,1, or JBOD's. "Reliable" cards are more around the 200-600 dollar range. I put "reliable" in quotations because just because you have a good card doesn't mean you're good to go. Hard drive failures and power outages can render your data unrecoverable. Instead of getting fancy I'd recommend you looking at ownCloud.org for your cloud storage needs. Use the money you'd of spent on a hardware card to instead buy a UPS so you don't have to worry about a power outage. Just my 2 cents.

We have two of them and they are extremely useful. We have one in the home office, and one in the living room. They are good for those short power outages where the power goes out and comes back on a minute later and power irregularities. In the event of a prolonged outage, they give you time to shut down your computer instead of having it cut out. I wanted a third one for my room to put my gaming pc on, several times the power has cut out in the middle of a game!
