So I figured I would share this lesson with everyone. So if you have a solid state drive (just gonna refer to it as ssd) with an os put on it and you plan on upgrading it, then do yourself a favor & clone the drive, which is what I did. So I had the previous Samsung 840 EVO 120gb ssd in my desktop and decided to give that to my mom since I recently upgraded to the 850 EVO 250gb during the holidays. I finally got my butt in gear and installed the newer ssd (despite the fact that the cloning method took longer than I expected). Needless to say once the process was done, I went bout upgrading my moms desktop (that was her main wish for Christmas) & the cool thing was that it was a rather simple and easy upgrade.
Heres what I learned; when I powered up the desktop with all the new hardware, I found out that the motherboard not only recognized the ssd, but also booted up the os and everything that had been cloned. I totally didnt expect this, but then it got me thinking; ssd works on flash memory, which means that no matter which computer you plug it into (as long as it has the sata slot), then itll show whats on the ssd.
I just figured I would share this new bit of knowledge with all who are interested in reading it.
