Hey guys,

I'm getting ready to move out to Detroit for one year to start medical residency at a hospital in Grosse Pointe. Never visited Detroit before and am looking for some recommendations on good and safe areas to live; it might be best for me to just live really close to the hospital, but I'm open to other areas if there's stuff to do nearby.

Thanks

Yeah, finding a safe place to live in Detroit is tough...

I'm not all so familiar with the area, but Grosse Point is a heck of a lot safer than anywhere downtown :P

Id sugjest Royal Oak or Birmingham. If your on the richer side id try southgate or blooming field hills. i was born and raised there. Id also suggest shopping at twelve oak..only thing missing is a FCUK but i can live with that. Have breakfast at the original house of pancakes in Birmingham on Woodward and right across from that is a borders books store and the most kick A grocery store :). For dinner try Buca Di Beppo which is in Birmingham a little was down from the pancake house (1/2 mile) and it is the best lemon chicken there is :). Well look me up if ya got anymore questions Cheerio

From what i heard from my teachers that Detroid isnt the best/safest place to live, BUT I've been only on outskirts of it and it wasnt that bad.

But again I might have been in those "tourists" places where they to keep it good and clean.

But still good luck, everything isnt that bad when you get used to it

Heheh... the Detroit 'burbs aren't too bad at least, and it's not like you have to live in Chicago :P Humboldt Park FTW

But yeah, Joko's got the right idea on this one..

Yeah, I'm familiar with Detroit... at least, I'm familiar with the airport since I was stuck there for almost three days including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in 2005.

My fiancee is from Ann Arbor. She says to be ready to pay out the YINYANG to live in a safe place. :-(
