Have you ever regretted pre-ordering a game?

I have been burnt by a pre-order before, so I tend to be a little more cautious now.

lmao pre-ordering?
it's the 21st century.
just buy the game 3 years after it comes out to get a $50 discount :^)

i pre-ordered smash for the wii u
came in 2 weeks after the release date
-_-

Pre-ordered Metal Gear Solid 5. Didn't finish the game

I typically don't preorder anything any longer with a very select few exceptions (the last one being The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth). Back in the day when preorders actually meant something I would fairly regularly do it with high profile games like Metal Gear Solid (even got a Foxhound military cap and dog tags for that one) and Halo 2 CE (which amusingly/depressingly net me one of the worst Xbox ports ever for free: Counter Strike).

Nowadays with digital games it's honestly a completely moot point to preorder something IMO. You're not getting anything awesome typically, they gate so much of the stuff behind preorders from 38 different places (like the "Gamestop Special Edition" and the "Best Buy Special Edition" and so on), and a lot of the 'bonuses' you get just seem downright sad. It's no longer a method of actually reserving a physical copy of a game on launch day, it's a way for companies to pad their sales figures.

This is a good point, I pre-order physical copies of books, because they can sell out and I will have to wait for it. However, digital games don't do that.

Assassin's Creed 3...came with a nice steelbook case, but the game itself wasn't that good.

The only games i have ever pre ordered are: Borderlands the pres equal, GTA V and Fallout 4. The only game i would ever pre order ever again is a Fallout title. I only pre ordered borderlands because a friend of mine was going to play it and wanted me to play it with her so i bought it just for her. GTA V because gta thats why and Fallout 4 because i am a hardcore Fallout fan, i own every single fallout game and i even have a fallout tattoo.

With how infrequent my pre orders are, there is a good amount of research to see if I will enjoy it. Thankfully, my research has paid off.

I never preorder because I wait for the influx of user reviews directly after a preorder, and plus I hardly can spend release-day cash on any title.
