New Hardware New Monitor advice

Hello people

After a bit of user advice regarding a new monitor.

I am looking for a 27 inch monitor, looking to go for a 1920 x 1080.

Now I have read forums, reviews etc, but actually would like some personal feedback...


My choices Tn or IPS panel... I do not game anything like as much as I used to, watch a lot downloaded films etc on pc so was thinking of IPS due to that but the response times are not as low as the Tn panels... But really does anyone really notice the difference if they have 1 ms or 5 ms response time?

My current monitor is

an LG 2252TQ which is 1680 x 1050 and going on 7 years old now

Just tell me what monitor you have, what you use it for and your thoughts and experience please..

Asus VC279H 27" Full HD LED IPS Monitor

and would like to know if anyone has this model ? appears to fit the bill including cost

I have benq xl2411 144z monitor, lower the latency the better I would say, if you playing shooters it's ideally better to have low response times. But the thing low response doesn't always translate to better experience. If you have bad reaction time, no matter how fast the monitor your gameplay won't improve.
 
I play on a LG 34UM94 and also have an LG29UM65 I would definitely consider a 21:9 monitor if you can budget one. Wider field of view without the need for a video card that pushes 4K.

So Samsung makes amazing 27" monitors, but when I started looking at price points, I ended up getting a 1080p Smart Tv for under $200 when it was on sale. This way it doubles as a PC monitor and a TV for the guest bedroom! Just depends on if you want that matte or glossy finish! Best advice I can give you after working in the tech world for over 10 years is, read reviews!

Thaddius, that is the problem I have read so many reviews I thought I would just ask peoples opinions on what they have. I can get a so called Asus gaming monitor (TN panel) for about ?160 or an IPS panel version for ?200. Now I am much less a gamer than I used to be, 7 years ago I used to be an avid gamer and would have gone for the best for that purpose but now as my other half uses my PC for internet and also I watch a lot of films/tv series on my PC I probably am looking for a compromise. I was hoping for some comments on whether the 27 inch screens running at 1080P were ok in general use as well as this appears to be a yes/no in the reviews....

I'm using the SAMSUNG S34E790C 34-Inch 21:9 3440x1440 VA-Panel Ultra-Wide WQHD WLED-Lit Curved Screen Monitor.

I recommend you to take a thorough look around at TFT Central to obtain some additional monitor knowledge before you make up your mind.

Take a look at Tom's Hardware Best Monitors as well.

Anyone out there using a 27inch ips Asus monitor at 1920 x 1080 who can advise how the normal usage, eg internet looks?? the main disagreement in the techy forums is whether 27" is to big for 1080P ? when it comes to normal usage, Some links below for the ones I am looking at

The reason why there's a market for 27in 1080p monitors is for console players. If you sit farther back these are good, otherwise I wouldn't recommend it.

I have the asus pg278q with i5 2500k and gtx 780. Awesome display, but probably more hardcore than you want.

27 inches is not to big for 1080p. whoever says it is. is talking out of a place where the sun don't shine. my 55" tv @ 1080p looks amazing.

I think the concern regarding 1080P on 27 inch relates to how close you sit. If you gaming on 55"" from a distance all will be well and so probably on the 27" sat at a desk, the concern comes when you are sat at a desk doing normal stuff on the PC (Spreadsheets etc) and the text is a blocky due to resolution and distance you looking at screen from
 
If I end up getting another monitor then I will be getting another ASUS brand one.

I don't know much about monitors but I think that ASUS would the best way to go.
 
You should figure out what you want first and also which video card you are matching this with.

2k/4k resolution = much better picture quality especially at 27 inches or more on moniters if your close to it. ( if further away it does not matter as much over 1080p due to you not seeing the pixles as much.). The major down side here is responce times on them can be slower then there 1080p counter parts which will effect performances in fps depending how fast you are.

1080p at 27 inches The quality will fade slightly vs say a 24 inch but not that noticible. It will be quite inferior to 2k/4k but the plus side is you can get a 144 hertz monitor at this resolution for a reasonable price. The pros to that is turning refresh rates. If you play game with alot of high quick visuals you will notice a difference. This primarily helps in 3d shooters and can not be denied.

The final thing is which video card are you pairing it with. Just because you get one of these new fancy monitors doesn't mean you will get a difference.

Example if i just have a 270x radeon. Neither a 144hertz or 2k/4k would make sence as the card is just not able to produce.


Once you got that i would then go to reviews see which is your style. In end everyone can recommend many brands but it comes down to what you like some like darker monitors some like them brighter more glossy. I prefer The Asus glossier style vs say BenQ but currently I am running an Acer 144 hertz due to the sale I picked up on( even if it dies in a year 129 for a 144hertz is undeniably amazing price:P).
