As many of you may know, Amazon has for many years offered a 30 day money back guarantee, if you have Amazon prime you have no hassle and free returns. For items sold and shipped by Amazon.com they also used to adjust prices and issue partial refunds if the item was in that 30 day return window, in order to avoid having people send the item back.

A few years ago Amazon realized that 30 days was a lot to give people the ability to request partial refunds, as items can easily go on-sale within those 30 days. So, they lowered their partial refund policy down to 7 days. People can still send the item back after 7 days and purchase the item again. I have had numerous prices changes on items, ranging from $2-$10, the most recent dated April 29, 2016 for $4.24 for a pack of light bulbs ( this was like a 49.6% reduction in price ).

I recently purchased another item, which dropped by exactly $8.00 in price 3 days after purchase. This is what happened after the first person refused to do the price adjustment and the chat was escalated.

10:05 PM PDT Jeeya: I understand your concern about the Price drop.
Thomas, we work hard to find the best prices out there and match them for all customers every day. Our prices do change over time. We don?t offer post-purchase adjustments for products other than TVs.
10:06 PM PDT Thomas Strong: I am not asking for a price match, I am asking for a partial refund. Amazon offers refunds for products shipped and sold by Amazon.com within 7 days of purchase.
I just received a partial refund on another order earlier this week. Order# 105-6320655-8702662 of $4.24
10:07 PM PDT Thomas Strong: I have done this several times before
10:07 PM PDT Jeeya: Customers who were provided refunds in the past by our customer service associates received an exception. It is not our policy to provide post-purchase adjustments for products other than TVs.

Obviously I was not buying this, they were not exceptions, amazon has done partial refunds for several years. Here is a perfect example from another order I had.

10:55 PM PST Minaz: Thanks for holding for me. I have had a look into this for you and i can see that the price dropped by $5. Ill be more than happy to refund that for you now. As an alternative to your original payment method, you can receive your refund on Amazon Gift Card to expedite your funds availability. Which method would you prefer?

I frequently click the box to email myself the chat transcript. After copying over some transcripts of prior refunds, I was told once again

10:08 PM PDT Jeeya: It sounds like we made an exception for you. It is not our policy to provide post-purchase adjustments.

I told this person that I wanted to speak to someone else that knew the correct policy. I was then sent to their leadership member.
After several minutes of waiting for him to read the chat transcript he said

10:25 PM PDT Rajesh: Thomas, I am sorry and this might have been an exception made by the agent and we do give exceptions however not all the times. I hope you understand. Your kind understanding in this regard is highly appreciated.

At this point I was getting pretty annoyed, as I have done this for years and these people are acting like I have just been getting lucky because they have never issued partial refunds, save for a few "exceptions."

10:26 PM PDT Thomas Strong: they were not exceptions
I have amazon prime
I will simply return the item and have you pay for return shipping under the "no hassle return shipping" and then purchase it again

And then

10:32 PM PDT Rajesh: I am sorry but I cannot provide any additional insight on this matter.
We appreciate your business and hope to see you again soon.

I started searching the Google for information about when this started, and complaints arose on April 30, literally the day after I did my last price adjustment without any hassles.

I do now feel bad for all of these associates that will have to deal with customers who are accustomed to the price adjustment policy Amazon held. What bothered me the most is that none of them were honest and Amazon made no announcement of the change. If the first or second person simply said " I am sorry to inform you that our 7 day price adjustment policy has been eliminated and we no longer offer post-purchase adjustments " I would have left them alone and gone to bed. I had planned to be in bed 2 hours ago :(. Now that I wasted all my time I am most certainly following through with my threat to order it again. :chair::chair::chair:

TLDR; Amazon starting on April 30/May 1st changed their policy and will no longer honor price adjustments if an item goes on sale after you purchase it. Obviously, you can still return the item and purchase it again.

I didn't even know they used to offer partial refunds on recently purchased items that go on sale. That's super frustrating, but keep trying. Sometimes you just need to get through to a person having a good day. I used to work in an inbound call center for a very big name with excellent customer service and on good days, Man people got everything they wanted and so much more.
