I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure I've read somewhere that Microsoft made it clear that they will never get into the handheld market. We've already seen how bad Sony failed, but I think that is mostly due to not getting enough third party support. With the mobile gaming market the way it is, it wouldn't make sense at this point. Nintendo can keep doing it because they've always held grip on the market.
 
No, their attempt to transition to the phone market has stalled as well.

Microsoft 10 is their path ahead. Its scalable but not sure how much so.

Would be interesting if they bought BlackBerry Limited....hmmm?
 
I play PC games on my Surface Pro 2 Tablet, does that count?
But in all seriousness, I don't really think Microsoft would make a dedicated hand-held gaming device.
 
Does not make sense to make a dedicated mobile gaming system, why not just make smart phones marketed to gaming?
 
You never know, but I think MS won't. Nintendo and iOS / Android have dominated the handheld market and you would need something REALLY impressive and different to nudge in there
 
The Microsoft HoloLens should count as something, it may not be hand held but it will use that aspect. I know that it is not out yet and it only cost $3,000 and right now it is not for the public. But I hope that soon enough Microsoft will come out with something in the next few years.
 
I feel they actually might, once they have the chance. With Windows integration with tablets and your Xbox, they might try and make a handheld console to roll with something.
 
I said maybe because they have the resources, but I doubt it. I don't see handheld devices being popular at all in the future. Nintendo will be around a long time, especially because of Pokemon. I don't see a reason for Microsoft to enter the game. The PSP was okay, I had one back in 2006 or so, but quickly grew bored of it. I would rather play those games on a console or PC.
