Tech Help Reusing Tower for new build

Hey guys, smiths here. I am about a week away from starting a new build. Before there is any confusion all the parts I am using are compatible, so no worries there. My worry is if I will need any screws for the motherboard switch from ATX to micro ATX. I would like to not have to invest in a new tower if I have a perfectly good one in my room. Also I was planning on recycling the tower so I threw all the extra screws out so there is that. I will continue to do my own research, if this is not enough info please feel free to tell me, thanks!!!!

Motherboards usually don't come with standoffs and screws. Hardware is usually included with the case along with extras in case you lose any. Just make sure you don't have a funky case with hard mounted permanent standoffs that look as bluntly as can be like little nipples... If you add standoffs to that the motherboard will sit to high and anything in you have connected into your PCI slot will be miss aligned to your case.

But for what ever reason you lose any of your hardware or it's the wrong size you can always order more online or pick up some up at any computer shop. Standoff and screws are cheap and is always nice to have some around just in case


On a side note if it's a full tower case you are putting the micro into... It's going to look awfully empty inside when all is said and one.

You can also try calling the case manufacturer for any supplies too. I had an Apevia MX-Pleasure case and I was missing some screws; called the manufacturer to figure out what I needed for a build. Tech guy said no problem, we got this covered for you. A giant bag of screws of all sizes, risers, even the plastic/metal covers for the GPU/PSU/5.25" bays, free of charge.

Thanks guys for all your responses! The reason I went micro ATX is because it is less expensive, and I am building a budget build. I will check my local computer store for standoffs and screws tomorrow and maybe they can give me some advice.

So I switched to an ATX MB for the same price. How much more wattage over the amount necessary do I need to be safe with my PSU. Is there a way I can get a new return paper and receipt from Amazon so I can return my GPU I just bought so I can upgrade it.

What PSU do you currently have? You'll have to give us a full list of all your hardware in order to calculate if a PSU is good enough.
