The tower was just removed in a minute and 1 second, that is one pretty interesting that they got it that fast and really sad because it destroys the map.

What are your guys feelings on this great big tower called C?

It is fun initially to have the tower to snipe and to tactically take. I think half of the ticket balance should be played with it. When down there is not much to do besides take the area and boat. Now the boat sometimes is good resistance to choppers if the enemy does not steal it. Some as you say take down the tower right away with tanks or choppers shooting at the pillars. There is nothing we can do with them taking it down quickly as it is the levelution of the map. You can of course think ahead that teams might do so and plan to take out the tanks or choppers right away.

I like that that the players have the chance to change the map completely. I deal with it either way but its always fun to see it go down :D

For me it's a mix -

On one side, you've got the high elevation for snipers, as well as mostly AA-rocket infantry to help with B and D (and/or "c4 paratroopers" dropping down on tanks)

And on the other side, when it's down you've got the boat that can help with the two bottom ones (mostly E), and somewhat help with AA and tanks near the middle of the map, although usually the boat is taken out rather quickly unless it's over by E or almost under a bridge.

down, as fast as possible.

If i'm on siege, chances are, i'm the one taking it down.

For me it has to stay up. So much fun fighting for it. Plus I hate the lag inducing dust.

I prefer fighting from the top of it. Plus the top is a good jump spot into a few other caps

I must be blind or something, I do not see this "dust" you speak of..and my settings are on ultra

I personally don't feel we should add a rule to the tower remaining up. It would be a nightmare to try to enforce unless we can actually prevent the tower from coming down by not letting the supports being destroyed until a certainly point as an option in the server setting (which I doubt exists).

So I want to pose the question, why is fighting for the tower so much more fun than any other point? I I don't know of any other map where people are "we love fighting for this point and controlling it!" Feel free to share if there is one.

Infantry love having the tower up (if you control the tower), because it becomes a huge advantage if you control it from so many points. You have a great view of the entire map. You can snipe and stinger from it. You can easily transport yourself to other points (although i don't see this happening as much because usually the mentality is, "WOW I'm up here, I never want to leave!)

There are really not any secret non-vulnerable ways to approach the tower. It's very easy to guard the 6 elevators especially if you listen for the "DING" signalling you should proceed to unload every bullet in your clip or rpg or click that remote into the soon to be open elevator. So the only other way is choppers and they are usually very easy to spot. The enemy just comes to your kill box and you get to kill. It's just a fun place to hunker down due to it's vantage point.

So what happens when the tower comes down? Why is it no longer so much fun to fight for? Ground armor STILL has troubles getting to it without becoming extremely exposed. The LAV and boat can get there, but there are many places infantry can hide to prevent getting shot. I hardly ever see a tank on there, and usually it gets owned by a c4 person. So infantry is still very much protected from everything but a chopper, but even then infantry is very difficult to see in the rubble unless you have thermals on and even then it can be difficult.

I'll tell you what is lost. It's the ability to snipe and stinger/igla to just about 360 degrees on the map. I would challenge the argument that people mostly like to use it as a "transporting" option to other points. Epic infantry battles can still be had here without too much interference from armor. The problem is once you have won the point, the spoils of sniper and stinger aren't there, so people move on and don't try to defend. It also becomes much harder to defend. Infantry can come from many places, not just 6. Also there isn't a "DING" letting you know they are here. The enemy is no longer coming to your kill box. They are coming to your castle that has been smashed to pieces.

Having said all this, most know that I get in the chopper from time to time. I will admit that my #1 priority is taking the tower so I don't have deal with a ton of stingers and iglas. If that tower has 20+ people on it and at least 8 have stingers, it becomes very difficult to fly anywhere else. However, once the tower is down, the boat appears and that is a wonderful AA tool.

Furthermore, I would also argue that if people are trying to take the tower on foot, it becomes extremely difficult to almost impossible to take without bringing it down if there are more than 10 people on it. However, the same argument can said for any other point, but we don't see 10+ infantry usually at any other point. Why? Because the rooftop dwellers don't like being on the ground. Instead of being on C, they have now spread to other rooftops which don't take a flag. AA infantry now have a harder time taking out the choppers.

I apologize for this being so long winded. I just trying to provide some information other than it being "the chopper whore likes it down". Well I like it down whether im in a chopper or out of it. I am with you all that I hate the haze, but sometimes it necessary.

This is an issue very near and dear to me, as most of my fun on the Shanghai map is in firing rockets + aa mines at the helicopters flying by.

The Shanghai server is presently set to 2,000 tickets, I would propose that when an admin decides, (and only when they are willing to enforce it) they can selectively impose a 1,000 ticket limit on taking the tower down. I would say about 1/3 to around 1/2 the player base on the Shanghai server nightly consists of "Regulars" who are really familiar with the rules and would respect it if imposed. I have relied on these regulars many times to inform me on who is breaking the rules, i.e. camping boat in uncaps, or griefing. There are a select few individuals (regulars) who IMMEDIATELY get in a tank and take down the tower as soon as the map starts. If this was a rule (even a temporary one) I'm pretty certain they would follow it.

If given the authority, i would setup a new keyboard bind "TEMPORARY ROUND RULE - US OR RU TEAM MUST HAVE LESS THAN 1,000 TICKETS TO TAKE DOWN TOWER" which I would be happy to enforce myself. Standard W/K/B EGO policy would apply.

This would be too difficult to enforce 24/7, but when admins are on, and are willing to enforce, it'll be fun. Also, this provides a balance between both sides of the argument in this thread.

Thoughts?

Live and let be. Let the game and players do as the map allows them to.

This is a very well thought out solution that compromises for both sides. I would be happy with this knowing that the tower is staying up for at least a predetermined time. Most of the time, the tower won't come down from the team that controls it, but the opposite team gets really butt hurt and brings it down when they are down only 300 tickets. The only people that bring the tower down are ones that get salty. I have had the other team tell us to stop camping the elevators or they will bring the tower down and it's like what do you expect us to do? Go play hide and seek while you guys flood the tower? But I digress. I love the idea of having a certain amount of time that the tower is to stay up for and then it is fair game. It would be a great experiment to implement for this coming weekend. Any community leaders here that would let this happen?

really i highly doubt you dont notice it.

Binary, would you kick people for trying to take the tower down then? If so, how many warnings before you kick?

I just don't like the idea of kicking people from Siege for trying to bring the tower down. It's a feature of the map. If you have the tower, and you don't want it to come down I think you need to stop the people trying to take it down.

If it's C4, jump down and kill them. If it's armor, you will have to convince some AA people to commit some rockets to that armor.

If admins are permitted to enforce this, I believe it should be shortened to 1500 tickets. 1000 ticket is a pretty long time. 1500 would give a decent tower uptime.
