The American Squad turned the corner toward the bridge. Teecmo was on point, his garand hung loosely in untrained arms of the Replacement Private. Behind him was Sergeant Zero, followed by Corporal Boyle on the BAR, Private First Class Hitreg carried his carbine (having been told to carry the mobile radio in place of his normal bazooka) and Lieutenant Dodgy guiding the patrol. There had been no sign of the Wehrmacht Division that was supposed to be watching the town on the beach, or the surrounding buildings. Dodgy had ordered Sergeant Tip to take the rest of the Company to set up an HQ around the church.
"Teecmo! Get that garand on the ready! We migh-" The lieutenant had started to bark orders at the private when the crack of a rifle echoed through the open courtyard on the bridge. The expierenced soldiers slammed down against the wall on the bridge, taking cover. Ahead of them lay Teecmo, grasping at the gaping hole in his neck. The soldier kicked his legs, trying to push himself backwards to the rest of the squad before coming to a rest.
"Where did that come from! Anyone see the shot!?" Zero rolled on the wall to get closer to the Lieutenant, "Had to have been those windows! Hitreg get your ass over here."
Hitreg, griping as usual, lugged himself up. he didn't expose himself, but unused to the radio on his back, he exposed the equipment, which was suddenly riddled by an MG42, causing the PFC to drop to his stomach, crawling the rest of the way with the useless radio sitting on his back. "That could have gone better."
"Boyle! Where did Boyle go!?" Dodgy looked down at the end of the bridge to see the Automatic Rifleman crawling toward the blownout building. "Boyle!" The Lieutenant called out, but Boyle remained calm, laying the BAR on some ruble, before opening fire. Suddenly the machine gun was cut off. Dodgy looked at Zero, shrugged, then ordered the squad to open fire. The three hiding behind the wall joined Boyle into shooting at the windows.
"Fall back! Fall back!" yelled the Lieutenant, The Corporal got up, and hustled back across the bridge, followed closely by the three who provided covering fire. By the time the machine gunner was replaced, all that was left on the ruined bridged was the young private and his Garand.

Hauptmann Havok watched his soldiers move quickly, and efficently. "Unteroffizier Tagger, come here."
The Unteroffizier ran up to Havok quick, snapping a crisp salute. "Ja?"
"Take a few Grenadiers and Obergefreiter Ravage over to the bridge. We need to make sure that courtyard is under our control. I will be taking the rest of the platoon to the church to secure the underground tunnel system and the church itself."
With another crisp salute, the Unteroffizier took her squad through the nearby inn to watch the bridge. The rest of the platoon made their way toward the church. Just as they cleared the alley and made their way into the courtyard. Unbeknownst to the Hauptmann, the Americans had secure the church and the nearby cafe already.
Feldwebel Mulvad saw the MG first, and called the platoon to cover. By the time the .30 cal unleashed its torrents of bullets, most of the platoon had managed to get behind cover. An unlucky few found themselves without cover and were quickly met by the .30's bullets, with a jerky dance their bodies fell into heaps. The Hauptmann kept his cool, ordering his men to return fire. Grenadier Compton peaked the corner and fired crying out with a cheer as the .30 cal stopped firing, when suddenly a garand shot echoed from the tower, casuing a puff of red to erupt from the soldier'ss chest, falling back and covering the Hauptmann. Believing their leader to have fallen in glorious combat Unterfeldwebel Rogue called for the remaining troops to fall back. Hearing the order, the Hauptmann almost called out, until a second garand shot hit the body of the Grenadier covering his. He realized the opportunity was the Americans and provided cover while the remainder of the unit fell back. Once back at camp, the Hauptmann immediately began to plan their attack again.
