I have had some problems, sorry it?s late.
On a night shift we had a call and we had to go up The Mile End Road to get to Bow, half way there we saw blue lights flashing , must have been at least 6 emergency vehicles there, we could see an ambulance and 2 fire engines and a number of police car?s. As we passed we could see a very bad car smash that they were dealing with , but the thing that caught our eye was the second car smash , a driver was so intent looking at the main accident he drove straight into the back of the ambulance! Wonder?s will never seize. We of cause stop to help but they were fine so we continued to our call.
Night shift, about midnight we had a call to an over dose, this was in the Mile End area, we checked him out and he was just unconscious, so we took him to the Mile End Hospital where we found the Emergency Department was full with patient?s and only one young nurse and an equally young female Doctor, she asked if we could help for awhile, I called our control and asked them and they said yes as long as need be . So we helped the nurse to pump out the stomach of the patient we had brought in. When this was done we helped where we could for about two hours until the nurse had caught up with the misfortunes of all the patients. The doctor thanked us and personally made us all a cup of coffee.
We had a Small Pox scare and so my partner and I had to move one patient to the isolation hospital then came the trouble of cleaning all the Ambulance and equipment.
This took a couple of hours so our bosses decided one crew would transport all the patient?s.
The epidemic lasted a bout two weeks, and a few days later one of the ambulance crew came down with the same symptoms, this caused a big flap until the Doctor?s said it was the guy?s mind which worried so much he had imaginary symptom?s, which when explained to him dissipated very quickly. We were all relieved for him.
One evening my partners brother in law told him that he had taken a guy to Bethnall Green Hospital to have his varicose veins repaired? He had been in bed with his girl friend when they burst. That of cause created some amusement among the guy?s, but strange thing?s happen and we got the call to pick him up and take him home to his wife!! By law we had to take him to his residential home address, but his clothes and car was still at his girl friends home. But being reasonable guys we accepted the couple of quid he offered and took him to his girl friend place.
As I have said no two days were alike on the ambulance service.
This is just ramblings about my passed and to the average person would mean nothing but to any one who had a similar job it would be interesting. I will try and tell some more .
:O:O
