Hey guys,

I was just perusing the Days of War forum in the Clan section and happened across a thread of someone wanting to create a "Waffen SS" clan. He then was slammed by many members of the community, EU and US, about the atrocities committed by the SS and how naming a clan after them is disrespectful and outright offensive.

It just so happens that SS is a part of my name (given to me by my older brother years ago). Are any of you offended or peeved about this? I am open to removing it. If no one is offended, I will leave it be. My intention was never to disrespect anybody. Cheers!

SIDE-BAR: Though I do not debate the brutality and horrors of the SS and that they will continue to stand in history as villains and criminals, I do see an argument for acknowledging their military prowess. I believe they were the most well-equipped, fought to the end, and were usually sent in first into combat zones, followed by the Wermacht Army.
 
I do not care, we won we would win again if it happened gotta remember who they were in order to prevent it again hence war games
 
I can see where the concern comes from, particularly if it's also happening in the servers.

Personally, I don't have an issue with your name, but wouldn't hurt to change it just in case others do

If you were to change it, maybe something like ShiftySS (Basically just having the SS but with no spaces - To me, less likely to be seen as a relation to the WaffenSS), since you mentioned it was given to you by a brother

Nah, DoD:S is more lax about WW2 related stuff like the SS and swastika anyways. Plus you can't just ignore certain parts of history. Heck, I got to be the commander of probably one of the worst SS groups in history during a Realism Campaign.
 
I have no problem with it. I thought it meant Shifty Super Stud!

General consensus looks like there's no worry, personally I don't mind.

With Days of War it's going to be pretty obvious 'reenactment' and 'divisional' groups will pop up- like the 101st and 82nd Airbourne. Wouldn't be surprised with a few German divisions as well likes of the DAK, 1st SS and Wehrmacht divisions likes of Gro?deutschland and Lehr divisions either.

Eyes are peeled on this game- see where it goes and whatnot ;)
 
Can't rewrite history. The past includes both famous and infamous figures and events.
Keep the name.
