So Day of Infamy is suppose to be a spiritual successor to DoD:S. The group that made Insurgency is behind the development. Right now its $20 on steam for early access.

The game was a mod, but they changed it to full standalone and it was released today. I have no experience with the game/mod. However thought I'd pass this along.

The store page is here.

Actually, there are many of us that own the mod, and have played multiple times. Its a fun game! However, I didnt know it was being made a stand-alone... Thanks for the heads up, Dutch!

Yeah, I knew it was a mod, but I guess it surprised everyone too. If they pull it off and add want they want since a mod is mainly a reskin. They could make it much more interesting.

It'll be fun for us because it feels like a nice blend of Rising Storm and DoDS. It does for me at least

Hey there...so a few months ago I returned to playing DoD:S after many years away (I actually never thought I would play it again but have enjoyed the return). I'm really not a gamer at all. However, there is something about DoD:S that is enduring for me. In reading these forums I've learned about Days of War and Day of Infamy. I watched YouTube videos for both and it seems to me that Days of War really looks like a spiritual successor to DoD:S.

I don't have the time nor the interest in playing multiple games. I was hoping that Days of War ends up being a great transition game for me. I read that some of you play both early versions of these games. Any thoughts about which would be a closer match to DoD:S? It would be fun to play a modernized version of DoD:S. Thanks for you insight as this community is very knowledgeable. :)

Will be getting it next Thursday when I have more time. Looking forward to using the flame thrower!

Man the maps, in the mod at least, were horrible. Made the entire mod entirely unplayable, especially for someone like me who started mapping for CS when I was 9 years old. I probably could've come up with better maps back then.

Days of War is made by an eGO member and his team, to be the updated version of DoD:S. Having said that I can't speak on if it actually is or not, but I do know that alot of our division supports the game and has a deep interest to see it be exactly that. I'm sure others that have been in since the alpha can give you more answers. As for Days of Infamy, the mod was fun, but in my opinion it should have stayed as that. I know they worked hard and made the tough decision to go the route of stand alone, but if it is now as it was in the mod, I personally will not be spending $20 on it and will be waiting to see if there are improvements.

Thanks Zero! I appreciate the background you provided. I look forward to seeing the finished product for both games. The YouTube videos for Days of War were impressive.

I purchased it, and so far i'm on the fence if I like it or not. Seems as alot of players resort to using the sniper which makes most other weapons ineffective on large maps as you are picked off quite quickly on spawn. Hitbox seems very buggy to me, the selection of class and weapons needs improved, more user friendly that is. Hopefully it gets better but for now I will stick to DoD:s or wait for Days of War to be released.

Figured 24.00 for both games isn't too bad, but had a played it before buying I would have not purchased it.

Got the game a few days ago, quite fun!
It's an early access game, so there will be a lot of changes to come. (Even possibility of the whole game changing over to a different engine in the future ;) )

But once the devs are happy with the with the guts of the game, it will be opened up to the modders community and then the game will get very interesting very fast.

For those who like tactical gameplay, (like Insurgency), then I would definitely recommend.

Also add me on Steam if you play INS or DOI and LETS PLAY!

I've been playing DOI a little bit and it's definitely a huge improvement over the mod. My biggest issue is still with the maps. They are pretty devoid of any map design still at this point. However, I think people are forgetting it's still in Alpha stage simply because it was based off Insurgency. Plenty of time for them to polish the mechanics and the maps, but I have to say, even at this stage, I was positively surprised with the game. Especially the co-op mode, which is already way better than in INS.

The game has so much potential and given that it is only Alpha and already has full servers most of the time is a great sign. NWI has proven themselves to be more than competent indie devs with a great track record for support and updates to their products. The best thing is that once INS is ported to UE4 as Sandstorm doing the same to DOI should be rather simple.

Dream scenario for me is to see DOW and DOI on UE4 as they play differently but I very much enjoy the game play of both.
