Gentlemen (and Lioness),

I caught some kind of power spike through my surge protector about three weeks ago, and fried the circuit boards on two hard drives. $5,000 later, I have my data back, but not all my programs. That means I can work, but not yet play.

I know, I know, THIS IS WHY WE BACKUP! Funny story though; my son was editing a really long video for a school project (more than 100 hours of HD), so he took my external hard drive (my backup location) back in January. He claimed it was faster. He gave the drive back in March, but I never plugged it in.

Lesson learned, and credit card maxed.

I hope to be back in Heavy Metal in the next week. In the meantime, do as I say and not as I do. BACKUP AFTER YOU READ THIS.

Hope you get it all under control and back to normality.
I need some kill cam kills...

For my OS drive...I take an Acronis image about every couple months, 1 drive.
For my working data, I keep 2 copies on 2 different drives.
For my play, I keep 2 copies on 2 different drives.

I have gone through what you are going through. And keeping a running back up is key to getting back up and running.

Backups do help, I normally use dropbox for a lot of my files and just symlink into the dropbox client so I always have backups. Sorry to hear about your financial hit, man these computers get expensive!
