My DoDS randomly keeps crashing and I cannot figure out why or a fix for it. Does not give no error messages other then hl2.exe has stopped working, no details. I know my computer can def run and handle it so I doubt it's a software issue. I do use windows 10 and maybe that could be causing it?

Trying verifying your game files first.

This. Verify the game cache. Right click on the game on Steam, hit Proprties, and under Local Files you will find it.

What video card are you running? Are your graphics drivers up to date?

You can also add -condebug to your launch options, which will log the console and perhaps show you an error before the crash

Depending on if the reinstall doesn't fix it, and although I don't have Win10, but if it has the Action Center (flag icon on the start bar, or found in Control panel), something that could help find the issue:

On the right side of the start menu taskbar, right click the flag icon and open Action Center (If you can't open it from this method, you can open it from Control Panel)

then open the Maintenance tab and there should be a 'View reliability history' link. This will bring you to a graph-like page that'll show you when a program has crashed or when certain updates install

The most recent crashes should be on the right since the graph scales daily/weekly/monthly, however you have it set to appear, going left-to-right.

When you click on a day that has a crash or error, right click it in the Reliability details box below the graph and click 'View technical Details'

After doing all that, you should see something like this at the top:

Faulting application name: DayZ.exe, version: 0.52.126.10, time stamp: 0x5493f5d5
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 6.3.9600.17476, time stamp: 0x54516af9
Exception code: 0xc0000005

I also have that problem and I also have 10!!!! Biggest mistake I have made is installing 10, whole directory's and file's have been lost because of 10. But it was the case of install it free or pay for it later. Free is what I can afford.

And this is exactly why I didn't go for Windows 10. Your best luck is to try and run it in compatibility mode. Find the exact Hl2.exe file within your steam\steamapps\common\dods folder, right click it and then go to properties then see if you can run it in older versions. You may also want to give it administrative privileges while you're at it.

I fixed it I believe, played for couple hours straight with no crashes, when it would crash like 10-20 mins into playing. Do not UNINSTALL the game, but delete the entire Day of Defeat Source folder. Path file should be C > Program Files (x86 in my case) > Steam > Steamapps > Common / Once you click common you will see the Day of Defeat Source folder, delete that. Then open steam > library > right click DoDS and verify game cache after deletion of the folder.

I did that too and it still would crash. See previous post on possible fix.

Was just about to mention this. When you delete a games local files from steam it doesn't always remove the actual file from your Steam folder. This file has to be manually deleted. The most likely cause of your crashing was likely a corrupted or messed up file somewhere in your steam folder.
